That's kind of funny. There, your crop is ending and here in northern Indiana there are just now flowers on the pepper and tomato plants. Heck, we had heavy frost on Mother's day weekend.

I just got my plants in the ground. Beans and corn are just coming up.

My corn and radishes came up two weeks ago. They grew to 2" and just flat stopped. Still 2" tall.

Cyril, maybe you bought the wrong corn seed. You got the seed for those little ears of corn on the salad bars.;)

We pulled winter carrots over a month ago. Nothing edible since until this weekend.... strawberries! We are getting about a quart a day from a 10x10 patch. Very nice. :licking:

I looked again tonight and they are finally growing again. Gained about an inch in the last two days. And now three leaves instead of two.

Your comment makes me laugh because two years ago we planted some store bought corn starts and planted them in the shade and poor soil. By the end of the year they were 12" tall and had a couple 1" ears.

Bird, I don't grow corn because I'm just feeding raccoons. For my 4th of July "Kaboom! in Sunset" celebration, I buy from either Walmart or Target. The prices at Walmart have been mostly around 4 or 5 ears for $1, but my grandson works at a Super Target where they sell corn for $0.10 per ear. They are shipped in crates of 50 ears, so that's $5 per crate and the limit is one crate per customer. I buy one crate and he buys one crate, giving us 100 ears of corn for the cookout if needed. All that for $10 is a steal. I wouldn't even plant two rows of corn for $10, much less hoe, water, and keep the 'coons out of it.

Jim, I said before I hadn't seen corn that cheap, but I guess my nearest Walmart overstocked for the holidays because their price is 10 cents each today. We just finished blanching and freezing 20 ears.

We've been making strawberry freezer jam the last little while. I used to do cooked jam, but I find the freezer jam has better taste.

Soon time for some relish, the store stuff is getting old fast around here.

I think we'll try some cherry-blackberry jam this year, if we can get cherries about the right time.

Does anyone can in half gallon jars?

I am making a soup to can and with the volume that I make and consume half gallons would be handy.

The so called experts say not to but then Jackie Clay says she has done it for 30 years with no side effects.

We have put up about 2 crates of strawberries in the freezer and 6 dozen ears of corn. Some on the ear and some cut off. Ken Sweet

when you cut the corn off the cob, do you line them up on the ground and use that sicle bar mower on them?

my corn is almost ready, tomatoes soon.

Double doggone darn and then some. All we did was some bread & butter pickles, some of them with a little jalopena for an interest factor. I think it was sixteen pints and four quarts or thereabouts.

Our tail was between our legs when we were done. I bet yours was in the next county and not interested in coming back, LOL.

Good grief! How many canners and work crews do you run?

I canned 7 quarts of pears. It took me about 2 hours just to peel, core them and cook them. Then 10-15 minutes for steam to build up in the pressure canner, 10 minutes at 6 pounds and another 30 minutes for the pressure to drop so I can take the lid off. :confused2:
