Do Tractors Have Titles???

I,too, am in the habit of recording serial number, date of purchase, where purchased, and price on the manuals of almost anything I buy that had a manual. Those manuals are all in hanging folders in the file cabinet.

And the topic of whether or not tractors have titles comes up pretty regularly, and so far I've not hear of any state that titles tractors.

I don't store my manuals with my equipment. I also keep a separate listing of all my tools and their SNs.

That's what I would've suggested. :thumbsup:
For all of the big things like tractor, implements, mowers, & such I also actually take pictures of all the nameplates/stickers.

Ok as some of you know here I bought a used L3400 to sell and now I am unsure of this questions...Do tractors have titles???? when I bought my L3130 new in 2003 I never got a title from Kubota so I just assumed they did not have them but talking to some people I work with they seem to think the newer tractors have titles.Can someone clear this up for me.I bought the
L3400 and got a bill of sale but no title.Thanks for any help...

Bought a new Kubota B7510HST in May05. Paid it off in 36 months. No title came in the mail from CA. Proof of ownership is the bill of sale. All CA wants is its sales tax cut on new tractor sales.

If you financed it through KCC, you should've gotten some sort of lien release document at the end of your term though.

we bought it from a guy who finaced through KCC but paid him.How do we know if he paid it off?

I guess you don't. Had you known, you could have insisted on getting the release or a copy of it.

Regardless as far as KCC is concerned, he would still be on the hook for it. So either a) it was paid off, b) he used what he made from the sale to pay it off or c) he's in some sort of credit trouble at least.

I would think (doesn't happen very often) that all manufacturers provide an MSO (Manufaturers Statement of Origin). Are you guys (other than TripleR) saying that you got nothing other than a bill of sale??

I've bought several new Kubotas and even paid a few off. Nothing but a contract showing purchase from Steve Barlow at purchase and then when paid off a copy of my loan with KCC with a stamped PAID on it. I do go to the KCC web site and make sire it shows paid there. I did sell one Kubota and made payments to KCC for another year or so after I sold it. Was going to pay it off with sale proceeds but with 0% interest it didn't make sense to do that so I used the money. It is paid off now and has been for a couple of years.
Ky has a website where liens are filed against stuff like tractors and anyone can go to that website and see if there is/was a lien filed for that person and a particular tractor.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Mailed to you from KCC, and should have included a cover letter, which is the release.

No titles out here in Texas.

However, anyone anywhere near one of my tractors is called a "target" and fortunately I have enough property that any "targets" will not have the opportunity for escape or appeal.

Regarding titles... RTVs can have a title if you intend to use it on the highway (the DMV wants their cut).

Regarding stolen equipment, I work for Kubota Insurance (KTAC) and can tell you we keep a database of stolen equipment that every dealer can access. Dealers call me all the time about stolen equipment brought in for repairs by the "owner". So, if your equipment is stolen, notify your dealer and they will let me know. I will put it on the stolen report for you so hopefully you can recover it. Otherwise, you can use Slade's approach with the "target"! :thumbsup:

I guess you (KTAC) could also verify that I am the original owner should I decide to sell? (I financed and insured through Kubota.) That should put the potential buyer at ease.
