How often should you change hydrostat fluid???

Hi, I got bored an made an old Airens do this for the local parade....

when I am not doing that I pull my sheep tractor around. I found this tractor out in the woods and have changed the oil and what not on the motor, but what/how do you maintain a hystat unit?

It was behind a neighbors house and it looked like an elephant sat on it and when I inquired it became mine.... Now what is up with the crane and your lawn tractor????

Most lawn mowers had a non-serviceable type HST. You didn't give much information regarding the hydro unit model type.

This website, TBN, and others, such as MyTractorForum, have many threads on removing the trans, draining it up side down through the vent hole and refilling. Other people report drilling their own drain hole and tapping for a plug. Do a search.

Fluids seems to vary. Some units took 10-40 motor oil, while it seems some of the units take HST fluid similar to Hy-Gard.

The manufacturer website or the trans builder would also have this information.

You could also try to pump it out, perhaps with a drill pump or somthing like that. Even if ya do not get it all, you could change a majority of it.
I do not know of a time line, but I would say every 100-200 hours on a mower would be a fair guess for longitivity.
