New GR2110

Hi Guys....

I ahve one of the older model GR's and it drove me nuts at the beginning with leaking. I kept after them and they finally put the rebuild kit in and no more leaks, but I still had the lack of power everyone complains about. The district representive showed up and my dealer come out and got the machine while he was there and he did the fine tuning on the pressures and told me that it now "puilled as well as any GR out there". That said, I STILL think the tranny is weak...however....I had a lot of strom damage and the tree cutters just piled logs that were at least 8 feet long and 38" in diameter (red oak) off the side of my terrice. I didn't think it would dislodge the logs wiich looked like a pile of pick up sticks (remember them?), but I dicided to give it a try. Got a peice of chain and hooked on and to my surprise it dragged every one of them out, in some cases pushing others out of the way. I was on a slick brick terrace and I think the AWD is what enabled it to move them. I have a Gravely I usually use for stuff like that, but in this case I think all it would have done is spin. Yes, Locknut I am actually praising the GR.... : ) I do beleive mine would climb that hill that someone posted earlier, but I don't know for sure of course.

So all taht said...it doesn't leak any more and appears to work reasonably well. I do wish teh tranny was a bit stronger, but after my episode with teh logs, I'm not going to complain. Good luck!

MJPALMER, it's such a nice mower, if they would just fix that one isssue.
But, I'll bet Kubota will end up saying, THE OPERATOR IS THE PROBLEM.

They might. It's in the owners manual-if the tractor cannot back up an incline do not attempt to climb it.Out of the box with the factory adjustment setting, and pedal design,it will only go backwards uphill at 15deg.I made the necessary mods and it will backup a 30deg incline and is much faster in reverse(which is why I made the mod).It must be product liability at play, plus the intended application is primarily a mower, not a garden tractor.

Lets face it,mowing 30deg slopes are not the safest thing to be doing with a conventional lawn tractor,4WD or not.Factor in an unexperienced operator and I'll garantee an accident is in the making.

I agree with you.
But, they should put that on their brochures. Not the manual you get after you buy it.
My old Symplicity said if you couldn't back up the hill you should not mow up it. It was terrible backing up, but, it mowed the hill.

Looks like you use your's for all kind of neat stuff. I bought mine for mowing that hill. Otherwise I could have bought a cheap one.
If they really want you to believe, that you shouldn't mow more then 15 degrees, they should say not for mowing hills. That's why I bught a 4X4.
I agree that is a steep hill but I've been mowing it since I bought the place in 93 and this is the first tractor that can't mow it.
They are coming over on Wed., we'll see what they say. I hope they have a Kubota rep. with them.

what did you do to mod yours and how?

Ground off about a quarter inch off the bottom of the pedal where it hits the floorboard and adjusted the linkage stop bolt.Has the same power and speed as going forward. It just opens the hydro flow rate up in reverse mode.

Oh btw,if this is done, you don't want to go full speed reverse and let your foot slip off the pedal lest you might fly off the tractor!

Sounds like a great idea. I'll have to wait to see what happens Weds. I don't know if that would void the warranty but I'll sure do it if they don't get this one fixed right.
We mowed today and my wife was complaining about it going so slow. So, I have a speedometer on the 3130 and I ran along beside her. It is suppose to run 6.2mph forward. Best we can get is 4.2. So something is haywire.
Man I hope they get it fixed.

Hi,
I just bought and received the GR2110 on Friday. I bought it for the same reason you did, to mow a steep hill. After a few pics of it before I got it dirty, I started mowing and before long arrived at the steep hill by the road. I guess the hill needs to be around 40 degrees at its steepest point. It was working hard but climbed to the top. I can't crest the top of the hill as it is at the road but it went to the top and I backed it back down. If you cant get full speed out of it, then I'm guessing your not getting full hydro flow which would limit its power and capability. I look forward to hearing what Kubota has to say to you about this. Good luck.

Does it start slowing down and not pulling as strong when it gets warm??

With all do respect, it isn't a good bang for the buck if it can't go up a hill. At $8k, the hydro (and every other aspect of it) should work.

Considering there are a lot of riding mowers on the market in the $1,000.00 price range, an $8k machine should be top notch.

If everyone that owns one knows the weak point is the hydro, then the hydro is crap. If only a small percentage knew the hydro is the weak link, then the hydro is good enough for 99% of owners.

Driving a 4wd mower up a hill is pretty normal in my book. They sell bar tires for this thing! Jeeze, it should climb!

Glad to read that this hydro pump is weak. We just had a hydro go on a machine with under 500 hours and I was so disgusted with this GR2100 and Kubota and the dealer - within 4 hours of the diagnosis - I traded the machine (got $2000 for it) on a Bad Boy Compact Diesel ZTR which runs like a bull on steroids and can tow 2000lbs +.

For a manicured, smooth lawn - this machine may be adequate - but for cutting around our farm - it just couldn't handle the beating of our irregular terrain. Glide steer, clutches, deck handle, oil vent, spindle, are just a few of the problems we've had. Good for those of you who have had good luck with this machine - I'm thrilled to be rid of it.
