if you ever used old V belt as a bucket handle.

I bought three metal buckets at Horror Freight years ago. They served well for a long time - made in Ukraine - but handles eventually broke off.

I punched holes in sides under the handle hinge and use old lawn mover V belt and secured it with a knot on the outside. Works like a charm and it is nicer to the palm of the hand than the original wire handle.

around here in these redneck parts we used to use a pc of romex wire to make a handle, although in todays time if the right person finds out about you having copper the bucket will go missing:D the theif will use your bucket to take what ever else he can get hands hold to:mad: mainly more pc of copper:cool:

Nothing wrong with that! Like a good boy scout you're just "using your resources"! Probably easier on your hands than my baling wire! Thanks for the tip, Prokop.

Thats so true. I remember the dump here when you could take something that was there, if it was easy to get to. (safety rules).
But now they have it so you cant even accept something as another is throwing it off the truck.
lol
And they go on and on about recycling... Re use is definitely part of recycling in my opinion... But its just not up in the class. So I have to keep my own dump these days lol

ABSOLUTELY!!! A bunch of plastic grocery bags stuffed inside a feed bag, hung horizontally on a horizontal storm door frame make for one of the best 3D archery targets you can't buy, cause it's free. Won't work w/ broadheads though, but I'm workin on it...:D

We gave up on one of those big pools with an inflatable ring around the top when the pump died. The thing was something like 16x20 feet. I rolled it up and stuck it in the barn figuring I'd find some use for part of it at least. Part of the bottom is now covering a stack of firewood. Some more is in the rafters of the barn until I find a use for it. It makes a good tarp because it is so heavy the wind doesn't move it around much. I saved all the tubing and cleaning wand, ladder, etc. Gotta be something I can use them for. If nothing else, they'll be there when the kids clean up after me so they'll have something else to laugh about the old man for.

Do you have to be from the South to be a redneck?

We cant bury any thing thats not inert in our landfill. It has to go into a household dumpster to the transferr station. I get al lthe 5 gallon buckets and make global buckets and raised planters out of them. I also get pallets and especially the really long one with 14 foot 2x4s that are nicer than the ones at lowes. I have a saying its Chrismas everyday at the landfill.

Another thing to use a large Vbelt for is a lifting slings for some items that a chain or other strap wont hold. I often use them on 4 inch pipes when holding them up on one end for cutting.

A long V-belt slipped through a two-foot length of 1-1/2" pipe will make a darned good strap wrench.

Just pull through a big enough loop to get around the target, pull the other end tight, fold down over the end of the pipe, then hold the free loop against the side of the pipe- now we're talkin' torque!

Same here. I picked at least 4 old sliding doors and used them - after taking the frame off - as a great windows for my shop. Back then they would help me load it on the trailer, nowadays I can not touch anything once it lands in the dampster. Really stupid policy, reusing is cheaper than recycling and I doubt there is any way to recycle glass double pane.
