Strange fruit on a vine

All three stages on a single climbing vine.
I have no clue what this is!

Walt, I don't know what your plant is, but I do know people who identify that plant and tell you about it. They are at UT Austin in the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center. Here's a link to Mr. Smarty Plants and the plant identification specialist.

Actually, I think kenstrac was the first to identify your plant.:thumbsup: He didn't have as many details, but he sure nailed the "milkweed vine" portion.

ok you guys did so good with the plant .. hoping you can help with an insect .. First one of these I ever saw was 2 days ago in my backyard. The stinger like object was longer than the body. Overall length was between 6-8 inches
