what speed do i run a 4ft finish mower

i have a 4 ft finish mower with my mt 372 ... what engine rpm ,, pto gear ,,an transmission speed do i run it .i do not want to damage my mower or my tractor ....thanks

It seems that 540 pto speed and pto speed should match up on the tachometer? You will know when you are mowing too fast, the mower will start streaking and lugging the tractor down. Ken Sweet

I ran mine at the 540 RPM (PTO) and in first gear. It feels slow, it is, but probably the best speed.
It would depend a lot on how rough the ground is, how familiar you are with the area, how thick the grass/weeds/trees are.
Go slow, be carefull !!

Many tractors have two PTO speeds, 540 and 1000 rpm. Many of the finish mowers will be running at 1000rpm.

As for ground speed that is determined by the height , thickness and type of grass plus the quality of cut you wish to achieve.

It's sorta an empirical experiment to find out what suits your needs.

Never ran a finish mower on my Satoh... the Woods RM42 mentioned using 2nd speed.
