John Deere 4052R Cab,, Deere 855D UTV, Z920A Zero Turn Mower and assorted implements
My dealer had been keeping an eye out for a 3320 with the reverser transmission (for me).
He gave me a call a couple days ago about a really clean 4400 with sync-reverser, so I checked it out. Definitely a clean and strong machine.
800 hours on the meter and the price was quite good.
I got 10500 for my 790, 419 loader and a 60" Befco RFM (I'd paid $12500 for the tractor/loader almost 6 years ago). The 4400 went for just under $13K, which included a fairly new 84" Befco mower (BIG freakin' mower!!!) and a full service.
So, now I'm the happy owner of a 4400 tractor.
The down side is it won't be delivered until Thursday, 20 May and I'll be in Milwaukee from the 19th until the 21st (evening).

As far as why...the 790 is a great tractor and has all the power I need. But I really like the reverser transmission (those blizzards last winter really pushed me to the reverser...although I'd considered buying a 3320 with reverser a couple years ago.

BTW, that's a 61" bucket on the 4400. For a 4400, that's small (I think most are 73"). But my toothbar off the 790 will fit mighty fine.

Looks great. Is the mower really that big or is the track of the 4400 that narrow? Can you reverse the wheels to get a wider track?

Congradulations! Great price on a very nice upgrade.
Are you sure that's a 72" mower? It sure looks like an 84".

Wow, Roy without the 790:eek: Just won't be the same 'round here...

But that is a great deal for sure-it even has the 430 loader!

What a score...!!! Great lookin' tractor! That tractor hasn't seen a hard hour! Look at that bucket - they served lunch on that - at the dealership! :D:

You'll be turnin' those rear wheels out and lookin' for chains, too.

Congratulations Roy!
Aren't JD790 and Roy Jackson synonymous around here? Never-the-less, a Chick Magnet for sure.
Does this mean the hat goes also?

(also responding to John_in_TN)
Well, the mower is really that big. It's an 84" mower, not a 72" (my mistake). When I got the call, I'd assumed it was a 72" mower. My first reaction was "Holy S**t, that's a big mower!!!"

Guy who traded the 4400 was 80some years old and this was primarily used for mowing about 4 acres and a bit of snow removal. Unlike me, he waxed his tractor frequently (I wash 'em, but never waxed 'em...maybe I'll start now).
Anyway, he had moved to a smaller place and, since he was losing his sight, had to get something his wife could handle.

This is very true....I'll be taking Testosterone suppliments as soon as the 4400 is delivered.

But the hat stays...just wearing it is better then using viagra!

I'll see how the work goes with the tires in that position, but I think you're right. I'd rather have R-4's, but the turfs are what came with the tractor. They're not filled either. I'm going to run it for a while before I make the decision to fill or not fill. The 4400 weighs about 800 lbs more then the 790's (just the tractor, no implements), so I'll see how it goes.

And there's no doubt I'll need chains. I'd tried to get chains for my 790 during those big storms we had last winter. Tirechains.com was out of chains for 15-19.5 at the time. Now, that's a good thing since those turfs are 11.2-24's, I think.

I'm hoping the holes drilled into the sides of the bucket are positioned properly for my tooth bar. They'll be good pilot holes if they are. I'll have to open them to .750 diameter though.
I'm going to have to add more sand to my ballast box too. It's about 2/3rd's full (figure 10-12 (50 lb) bags of sand) now...

Thats one **** of an upgrade for 2500. Did you use a gun ? I would have called a roll back tow truck to make sure he didn't back out. Make sure you throw the salesperson a bone.

I bought this one from the same sales guy I had bought my first tractor from in 2000 (Deere 670). He's a straight up citizen. The 790 had come from an out-of-state dealer (internet purchase).
For this one, it was really lucky he called me before the machine was advertised. I was out of town, but I did get to the dealer as soon as I got back to PA.
And trust me, he'll sell the 790 within 2 weeks.

Congratulations on a great deal Roy! This new ride will give you the gears you love, and much nicer shifting for loader work, etc. I don't think it's less manly at all! Keep us posted on the tires, etc. I'm thinking that you are going to look pretty good up there, and it may take a while to wipe your smile off.......... and that is a very good thing!
