Last weak I got my new fan guard from my dealer. Got around to installing it this past Saturday morning. After installing it, I was quite disappointed with the level of protection it had. The only real protection it offered was if something came at it straight up from the ground. It left the hole front still exposed. This guard diffidently needed improvement. So I made a extension plate. I cut a piece of sheet metal out 11" x 6" and bent it to match the factory guard. Drilled three holes in the guard and extension piece to match. Welded three 1/4" x 20 nuts on the extension piece so you could bolt it to the guard. Fitted it to the guard on the tractor, had to Mark out notches for the drive shaft and fuel line. I used three 1/4" x 20 x 5/8" pan head allen bolts to attach it to the guard and for a clean appearance. This makes the new extension plate easily removable for servicing the fuel filter. With the new extension plate installed it now has a lot more protection. The pictures show the before and after. I am still thinking of making a belly guard that attach駸 to the mower lift arms someday. But I think this will be sufficient protection for now.
