I don't have a bag phone anymore, but I got one built into the car console that can't be used anymore. Some on another site don't like my signature, I think they don't pay attention to what it says I think Rush has fried their brain.

I love your signature! I had to read it twice to get what it said, but the second time I laughed out loud.

"I want to be able to make calls and I want to be able to receive calls, and I don't want any exterior buttons on my phone".

I'm looking for a new phone myself and would like just a tiny bit more than that.:D I'd like a good loud speaker phone, would like one that can be set to both ring and vibrate, and would like just a reasonably decent camera with a memory card or other very simple way to transfer photos to my computer; no bluetooth, no texting, no music, no e-mail, etc. After 10 years of paying AT&T $29.99 a month, plus all the taxes & fees (over $36 a month) I finally changed to the prepaid two bits a minute plan because I use the phone so little that I won't spend $100 a year at that rate.

I did not read all the posts in the thread so I'm sorry if this is redundant...

if you are on the AT&T network or any other one that uses a "simm" card (I think all but Verizon do)...you can buy any "unlocked" phone (best buys are on e-bay)...just put your simm card in any unlocked phone and your are good to go...

make sure you save your contacts to the simm card in the old phone before putting it in the new one...

Bird, you might want to check out the Net10 phones at Walmart. We got our daughter a phone for 20 bucks. We have to put $30.00 on it every two months. That = 300 minutes or 600 text messages. Unused minutes roll over every month. It is a simple phone with no frills. They have nicer models that seem to go up in $10.00 increments. We liked it so much that we got another one for my wife. Anyhow, what I like about it is no monthly fees and if we want to cancel, we just stop paying.

My old Motorola V551 still works but the vibrate part of telling you a call is incoming doesn't work anymore. And my wife used to have one just like it, but on T-Mobile (daughters' family plans), so for that model, we have 5 chargers for the house, 2 chargers in the vehicles, manuals, and one of those bluetooth gadgets you can hang on your ear. My wife thought that gadget would be a good idea so we used it a couple of months and it's been lying here unused for about 4 years.

I use a cell phone so little that phones are cheap, but the decision is whether to spend the money for one with a decent camera, which would also be seldom used, but which I would like to have.

Our daughter "upgraded" phone instruments for their T-Mobile plan and gave my wife a new Sony Ericsson TM506 cell phone on January 30 of this year. After a little over a month, it was found that if you tried to call her number, it just immediately went to voice mail instead of ringing her phone. T-Mobile mailed a new one a couple of weeks ago and right out of the box it wouldn't recognize the SIM card. So they sent another one, and at least it's working for now. But that's 2 defective instruments in 2 months. So I don't want to spend much money without a decent warranty.

Recently upgraded mine to Samsung "Convoy" that is supposed to be Mil-spec rugged. It does have a PTT button (not used) and also a 2MP camera (not used), but it has a very good battery life of something like 13 days on standby, but I just charge it weekly as I have it primarily so "She Who Is Still Working" can get reach me if needed, part of exploring my new-found freedoms now that I am retired.

Anyway, I like it, has buttons large enough for my big fingers, is loud so I can hear it ring and in my ear when talking, does Bluetooth so I can use with a H/F device while driving, good battery capacity.

However, I believe it is Verizon proprietary.

My employer just updated our phones to the BlackBerry curve. I like it, but there are almost too many options and customizable settings. Also, the buttons is tiny, tiny, tiny!

Yeah, I've looked at some of those; don't think I could use one until I get new eyeglasses later this year.

I've tried some of those. Even if I can see the keys, my fat thumbs still can't hit them right.

I have a LG Xenon for now. It was a hand-me-down from the boss's wife. It was too complicated for her. It's better than what I had, but still leaves a bit to be desired. There are a lot of functions, but it seems anything I do takes a dozen key strokes. Checking my office voicemail is an olympic event. Between the phone screen locking itself every 10 seconds or so and having to log in, navigate to a dialpad, and carefully dial through the voicemail menu at every step of the way, It's a wonder I ever succeed. Add to that the fumbles from missing keys, and I could spend half an hour checking messages.

My wife just got a curve on nextel system (the only system that works reliably at out cabin) and I have to get my stylus out of my palm to do keys they ain't made for us fat fingered people but I do like the track ball and some other featurs and am considering getting one when my flip dies.

You might consider No Contract Cell Phones & Wireless Plans - Consumer Cellular.
The minimum cost option is
no contract
$10 per month
free phone or up to $50 choice
no free minutes
AT&T network
25 cents per minute
$35 activation fee

I didn't have to pay that $35 activation fee when I went to the straight 25 cents a minute because I'd been on one of their monthly plans for 10 years. Just plain cell phones are cheap enough, but I thought I wanted a simple one plus a camera with an SD memory card. But I didn't want to spend a lot of money for something that will be seldom used.

So, after shopping for several days at 2 Walmarts, Best Buy, 2 AT&T company stores, and Radio Shack, in addition to a lot of shopping online, I've decided to just keep my old Motorola V551 until it dies.:D

I am surprised how easy it is to adapt to the tiny keyboard. The keys are QWERTY just like a real keyboard, so I find I do not have to look at them just like a real keyboard. The only learning curve is the special function keys. Once you use one a few days, it becomes pretty natural.

What I like about it is it is not a touch screen. Real keys. No trackball, either. It is an optical pad. Nothing to gum up the little ball like the older models.

I got a Curve 8520, unlocked off E bay and I like the trackpad a lot better than the trackball, gave the Pearl to the wife. I checked my AT&T account online and they already know that I'm using the 8520, even have it pictured with my number. I'm now watching them to see if they start charging me for the data plan that I would have to have if I got a phone from them.
