Don't know if the rest of the country is affected by whatever
this demon disease is, but I have never been sick this long.
My wife caught it from the guy next to us on the plane over to Europe,She got sick, then better, then I got sick. Then I gave it back to her(Hey you share everything after 40 years!)
Then when we got to Houston, my nephew was just getting over something.
It's now been about 6 weeks and while better, still hanging on.:(
Anyway, Everybody I talk to seems to be at some various stage of this "Thing".
Are you guys in the far North affected?

Pretty health up our way, haven't heard of anything nasty. :) Only thing is its hay fever time. Lots of pollen from fir but mostly alder trees, nice :( yellow powder. Cut my lawn last Friday for the second time and even though I had taken one pill had to take a second. :licking: Guess cutting the grass stirred up a bunch of that pollen.

Had something in Dec. that took about 6 weeks to go away.

Posted a while back (maybe 3 weeks) that I was sick just in time for our first beautiful week-end in months. I'm still congested, the cough just won't go away.

My wife is pregnant so I stayed at work...well that's why everyone gets sick every year. Nobody learns to just go home.

Wishing greener pastures to you my friend.

So this is what crusty 1 was talking about. I've been fine other than a case of food poisoning Monday and Tuesday which through me for a loop.
Had some bad bacon on Sunday which hit me about 1-1/2 hrs after I got to work on Monday. Put me down pretty hard for about 36 hours. Doing fine now though.

So far nothing..knock on wood, spring time when I catch least one cold.

Hope you kick it real soon.

I had a "normal" runny-nose head cold a couple weeks back, which got better and seemed to go away after 3-4 days... but it apparently came back.

Missed two more days last week, and have been positively dragging my butt all this week. Still having sinus congestion, hacking up stuff... not real bad, but it just won't go away.

We'll see what today brings- almost didn't make it through yesterday. Have been napping every day right after school, getting to bed early, and still have had a hard time rising in AM. Today's the first day I've felt like getting up at a normal --usual-- time for me.

I've heard from others about the "cold that won't go away".... Sound like the same? Yuck!:(

I've read that, as you get older, you get fewer colds so I hope it's true.:D My wife and I both had a pretty severe one in January '09 so it's been 14 months.

I missed one day of work last year. Yesterday, I felt bad for about 1/2 hour. Other than that, nothing to complain about. :)

Ooops, better knock on wood! :mur: Well, that appears to be brick, but it is the only emoticon that is close.

Read about "adult pertussis" on the internet and see if it might apply to those of you with persistent cough/symptoms.

Good one Bird. So, how long will you have to wait to find out? :)

I thought there were only so many common rhino (cold) viruses and each time you contracted one, a bit of immunity was developed to that particular virus. If that is true, as a person ages they should have some immunity to many of the common cold viruses.
Dave.

THANK YOU!, I never thought of whooping cough, Went in for a chest xray the other day, but it sounds like a mucus check would be advisable.

If you aren't going to day care or school to pick up kids or grandkids, that reduces your exposure to germs.

Right on! I believe we who work in schools should get hazardous duty pay.... eveything that comes down the pike we get exposed to. This is the first "cold" I've had this year, though it has cost me 4 work days so far.

Guess I'm old fashioned, but I feel embarrassed to take sick days.

I've had very good results taking zinc tablets when I feel the fever/cold feeling coming on. Has worked well for me for several years. Not 100%, but at least 90%. I imagine it varies between people.

I rarely get sick BUT I have had a persistent cough going on 8 days now. Not bad congestion or runny nose, no fever, no headache, just an annoying cough and chest congestion that's worse at night when I lay down. Person I work with had same thing. Told me it lasted 10 days, was viral based, and you just had to let it run its course. Certainly sounds like a strain of something going around. I feel like I have TB or something!

Strange how all the symptoms seem to match my experience. I may have to pay closer attention to this cough. Thank you. Maybe I'm not crazy and there could be something else. Maybe it's not just a cold...that lasts 3 weeks.

When we are interns we rotate at the Children's hospital for training - the worst assignment to get was the 1-3 y/o ward. You could count on having upper respiratory and GI infections for the entire month.

Guess I'm old fashioned, but I feel embarrassed to take sick days.

We were told years ago, again during training: "If you're too sick to come in to work, come in and we'll admit you."
