I have never watched the olympics in the past but this year I'm into them in a big way. Very fun to watch. Can't wait for this aft's game.

And I am secretly in love with the captain of the Canadian women's curling team.;)

Yup I'm sad it's ending, was a great distraction from all the bull going on in the world.

I'm not that into Hockey though I love to skate and slap a puck around with my kids when I do. But I will be watching the big one today. Not even sure who I'll be rooting for :)

It was a great hockey game. Enough said.

I turned it off when I heard that the first person who scored for the Canadian team was the team captain for Chicago.

As mentioned in a previous thread on this topic, the Olympics make less and less sense.

Put it to you this way. I'd bet that if these professional players had it written in their contracts that they couldn't play in the Olympics, they'd sign the contracts anyway because they wouldn't give a rats butt about "national pride". It's all about the money today and the Olympics are nothing but a side note.

I watched the game while ice fishing thanks to a 1km wifi link.
My brother in law caught the only keeper of the night at the moment of the winning goal.
Enjoying the closing ceremonies right now. I'm expecting to see Bob and Doug any moment. :)

I turned it off when they started talking about writing your name in the snow. :confused2:

So what's changed? Did it make any sense for the Greeks to run across the plain of Marathon?

I get your point, but it is the Olympic Games. Can't make sense out of the human desire to play games. I am not a big sports fan, it really makes no difference to me which NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB team wins or looses. If those games were never invented or played, it would not change our world by much. No 'sense' involved. But, we do like the spectacle just as much as the Romans in the coliseum did. We even pay entrance fees and buy our own food now.

Trying to cheer you up

Yes there are some odd things about the games, but they were fun to watch!

It was a great game and the Canadians emerged with the victory. The best team on the ice yesterday won the gold. All the "could haves" and "maybe ifs" have to give way to congratulations to the Canadians on winning the gold.:)

Probably pretty good timing Moss. I think Catherine O'Hara is a very talented lady and I love her work but her monologue was one cringe after another.
Neil Young was the highlight for me.

Glad it is finally over!

Maybe the news can revert back to serious issues that matter to us rather than covering people playing games.

So and so won this, and so and so won that. Who cares? How about an award for the condition of our situation. Unemployment, real-estate collapse, taxes, etc. I don't think we would get the gold, would we?

For the most part I thought the closing ceremony was well done but who the heck is Catherine O'Hara, thought she was a bit off the wall with her stuff.

Wasn't she the mom in the Home Alone movies? I thought her writers could have done a better job.

Yeah. I like that song.

My 12 year old daughter "got" the William Shatner references to Start Trek. I was impressed with that. :)

But when the yellow snow comments came she turned and looked at me and asked "Why is she talking about people peeing in snow?". I said "I don't know. Let's call it a night." and she agreed. :D She had ISTEP testing today, anyway, so she needed a good night's sleep. ;)

I heard this was the most watched Olympics in history, so I'd say lots of people care! Could be everyone needed a distraction from the every day gloom and doom news. Or could be people just enjoy watching people that are good at what they do.

Those Canadian hockey players sure looked happy when they won. Not sure if that was national pride or self pride.
You're probably right that some players would sign contracts that wouldn't allow them to compete in the Olympics but I don't think you can make that case against all of them. When Michael Jordan was playing for the Bulls he had a "love of the game" clause in his contract that would allow him to not only compete in the Olympics, but play in a pick up game if he so chose. I suspect most teams try to keep the "for the love of the game" type clauses out of their contracts to protect their investment in the players. The fact that so many professional athletes now compete in the Olympics shows that they aren't "all" about the money. Sometimes its about representing country, and sometimes its just about competing against the best from around the world.

Pops, when I looked at the faces of the US team accepting their silver medals instead of gold, I think I saw disappointment that went far beyond any thought of salary. This was a game for pride and true sport. I think both sides felt that way man-for-man. I'm proud of all of them. They played their hearts out.:)

Don't know what to do with myself tonight :(
I really enjoyed it, it was a much needed distraction.

I think the Olympics are more important now than ever, when else does the world get together for a common activity, except war.

Your not likely to drop bombs on someone your enjoying a friendly match of Curling with :)

Made me realize we have a pretty good neighbor in Canada, but I gotta admit I had enough of hearing their anthem "O-Canada" :)

Can't wait till the Rusky games in 4 years.

Great games, and it was nice having a bit of a break from all the negative news. I enjoy the winter olympics better than the summer. Vancouver is a pretty area, hope to get up there some day. I think olympics were better before they let the pros play, but still good. Now it's on to march madness. :)

I was thinking that I remembered that "professionals" wern't suppose to be in the Olympics. I figured it was just my bad memory so I kept my mouth shut. When did that change?

I just read Ovechkin's comments to the media about the games in general and in particular the Canada Russia game. He was classy, the way I expect all athletes should be.
