Reading todays paper, the local Toyota dealership had written on their sales promo "Over 300 New Toyotas Unaffected by Recall!"

I'm no marketing guy, but I have to scratch my head on why you'd advertise about the vehicles you have in inventory that are not on a recall list:confused:

Honestly, I've got two Toyotas and a Honda (and they just had a recall) sitting in the driveway, but down the road when I need another car, for the first time in my life, I'm seriously going to consider buying a Ford. Don't know if there were any back door deals done with Ford, but the fact that they didn't take any "public" bailout money has impressed me.

I also hope that the American Car manufacturers have learned from their past mistakes, and perhaps with this "hiccup" with their competition may gain them some more market share which they can build on. Now don't crucify me, but I also hope that the American workers at the American car plants also don't expect to making an hourly wage that most American factory workers would die for.

Only hope Ford can keep it going when I'm ready to buy another car.

.

When all you have is lemons - make lemonade? It is a strange advertising direction. I have never owned a Toyota, we have a Honda Civic and a Ford Explorer/Sport Trac at the moment. I have always been partial to Fords and I can't give any rational answer as to why that is. Somebody in advertising earned their money I guess :)

I think over time, all the auto brands get their days in the sunshine and some days in the mud too.

At the risk of starting a firestorm, let me just comment to this with, "Not gonna' happen as long as the UAW runs the show."

I do believe finally american auto makers paying attendion,a lot buyers had enough over the years purchase not from the big 3...what a shame, big 3 have long road ahead tho...just purchase my 4th Chevy picup 4x4.

Sigarms, That was funny or at least ironic. They may have opted to place the word "pending" in their add.

I buy mostly Chery, but i think the big 3 have positioned them selves at such a disadvantage against the "foreign" makers that it would take years to catch up. There may also be a little logic that some of our export/import rules bare some of the responsibility, but I think it is the American auto industry the most.

The major importers are usually known for the longevity and quality overall, which has been a universal joke when compared to American made autos on a cost comparison basis.

I think Unions at one time where necessary, but now with all the labor laws, I think they are price inflatables that lend themselves to greed. I read that around under $2000 was in the price of an American auto due to labor cost alone and yet the quality is spotty.

Theres a Craigslist listing from NE MS wanting to buy all you unsafe Toyota vehicles to save your Familys lives. I told my wife they just want to have them fixed then resale them. I have a 94 toyota 4 runner I have for a spare that was a roll over. I would buy one tomorrow.

Definately agreed. There is also a lot of talk that Toyota is getting such bad press and the Feds are calling for hearings because Toyota is not UAW friendly. Look at who runs the show and who the unions donate their money to. And I am a Teamster.

Has the press made mention of the Ford Hybred having the exact same problem with their braking system as the Prius? If they have I haven't heard about it.

I have owned GM, Ford, & Chrysler products for over 30 years and finally purchased a Toyota two years ago. Purchased my second one a year ago. Both of them are on the recall list.

My first Ford F150 was a lemon and after 10 months Ford took it back. The second F150 was the model where the ignition would catch on fire. I never did receive a recall notice from Ford and the person who purchased this pick-up had it burn down his garage. It took lots of attorney time to get a settlement from Ford.

My Chevy C10 was the model with the fuel tank behind the seat.

Dodge Grand Caravan had no rear brakes (defective rear wheel cylinders) from the factory and the recall for the faulty tail gate latch.

All brands have problems, so far Toyota is the only company that has openly admitted they have a problem and are agressively repairing them in a timely fashion.

I suspect American auto makers problems are as much the fault of greedy managing as is it greedy union reps.

I think I did hear of the Ford problem - very briefly. The media is pumping this Toyota story for all it's worth, that's the way it always is no matter who or what the issue. If a congressional committee holds hearings calling Toyota to task, that will be primarily for grandstanding and voter brown-nosing by the politicians - as usual.

The facts that matter: did Toyota fail to notify the Feds of the problems as they should have? And, how does that compare with other auto manufacturers in that regard?

Maybe I am missing something, but I don't think the people working on assembly lines are doing the engineering work for any auto company. Why blame them for design flaws or their union? Are automotive/mechanical engineers working for GM/Toyota/Ford/etc UAW members? I am under the impression they are not.

BAM!!!! and there it is the truth :) !!!

I know we're all suppose to support the American line and worker, BUT CAN I ASK when did they support us? Sorry but the truth is black and white, you want to play with fire plan on getting burnt!

I'd buy a toyota in a heart beat, my money is just as important to me as the UAW's is to them
