Looks like it works well, that's always a good thing after spending a lot of time and money on building something. If that's the only thing you break it isn't so bad. I have broken my splitter twice now, took a couple of years for the second break and I have that part well beefed up now. Wonder what I will break the next time:rolleyes:.
I see you are standing clear when it is splitting but you need to be equally carefull when it is retracting to make sure it doesn't catch on clothing or pinch some portion of your anatomy. There is still a lot of power available when it is retracting.
Have fun making big pieces into little pieces. I'm interested to know how much your fluid heats up after an hour or two of use.

Brandaro:

I hope to try it out this weekend for real. I've got a 25 Gallon tank, I can't imagine that will get too hot. My tank has a temp gauge on it so we will see. After running it for 15 mins today very lightly with 10 gallons of fluid in it, I could tell that it was at room temp anyway.

Also, on the other side of the log lift is a log stop. I need to tweak that some tomorrow... It sits up too high, and the logs hit it, and of course bent it a bit... Luck has it, I have a 58,000 pound hydraulic press to pull it back into shape.

I'm going to run it for a while now, and then take it apart to paint it up. So far I think I could have bought maybe 15 cords of wood... wow....

Jim:

Now what you have is not a wood splitter! I think they call that a firewood processor! That looks like it cost a lot of time and effort, very cool.

Wayne,
Nice job with the video's!
The 4-way wedge does a nice job!
Too bad about the weld break.

Post pic's of the painted unit!

Yea, if the weld did not break, something would have bent. The four way wedge moves up A LOT, so it really needs to float. I never thought of it, but if the diameter of the wood goes up a bit, it will want to force the wedge higher and higher. I split one today and it moved up three inches...

I need to dress up the hoses now and make a basket to catch the wood and then add two cup holders!
