Well, after mowing season and several other jobs around the house I am getting close to my 100hr service. I am going to change the hydro fluid along with the oil. I used Rotella for my oil change @50hr but just wanted to see what many of you are using for your hydro fluid.

Based on some posts on here, I just can't see paying the price BC wants for their fluid.

Also, I just want to be sure but the hydrostat transmission and the hydraulics use the same fluid. Is this correct?

Correct both use the same fluid. As far as what fluid to use, check the specs in your owners manual and go to Tractor Supply, I'll bet you'll find that their Universal fluid will meet or exceed those specs. Last time I bought it, price was around $45 for a 5 gallon pail.

I used Bobcats fluid for my 50 hrs hydro service and asked several different dealers about it and they all said it contain something special in it for no foam?? So I purchased the bobcat brand, with the problems Ive already had I figured I didnt want to hear from them that if I had a failure it was lack of maintence or wrong spec fluid.

Its yr machine and yr money educate yrself and use what you want but if you have a problem then you cant blame anyone but yrself. Thats the way I do it.

My dealer told me that Mobil Fluid 424 was the way to go, but I haven't checked specs or the price.

Why are you changing your Hydraulic/Hydrstatic fluid again after only 50 hours from the the last time???? Unless I have a different Bobcat manual it's not required for quite some time yet..No??

50 hr service calls for hyd filters only...not hyd fluid. Engine oil is the only fluid change @ 50 hrs in my manual!

I did not change mine at 50hr, my dealer said they don't do it until 100hr. I just changed the filters at 50hr.

The bobcat manual says to use bobcat fluid, but the Kioti owners manual says to use Mobilfluid 424 or Shell Donax TD, I found Mobilfluid for $55 per 5 gal. 1/2 the price of the Bobcat stuff. I guessing that since it's the same tractor Mobilfluid 424 or Shell Donax TD won't hurt it even if it's painted white.

I think the bigger tractors require the 50hr fluid change and the smaller ones just filters. I know when I changed my fluid at 50hrs it looked used up for sure, the mag drain plug was gunked up bad, there is no way I would have wanted to go 100hrs after seeing the condition of my fluid. I use my tractor to its limits most of the time, I dont cut any grass.

Thanks Tinman. Thats good to know...I think I will change mine and see what I find.

I also failed to mention that the filters I took off I cut open, which wasnt easy, and they also had lots of crud in them. I talk to my dealer and they said all was normal.

hey sprocket,
What model tractor do you have that recommends filters only at 50 hrs? I'm pretty sure my ct225 recommends the fluid at 50 hours, but I don't have access to my manual here. Thanks

I have a CT225...I'm not near my manual either, and I am going off memory as well so take it for what its worth. I purchased the fluid from my dealer and then looked at the manual to see that the Hydraulic filter, trans filter, engine oil and filter were required (no mention of Hydraulic/Hydrostat fluid). I also purchased a fuel filter and both air filters (I clean my outer filter every 4 hours during the summer)

Bobcat must make their hydro fluid out of gold. I just called the dealer and 2.5 gal is $60.71! I think the ct230 holds 8.1 gal, that is $240!

I think I will look around for the Mobilfluid 424 or Shell Donax TD that was mentioned in an earlier post.
