I surely wish more people read more books and magazines.

I do too because I work for a printer (yea a little selfish) but the page count is about 1/2 of what it was a year ago and still going down.

We do about the same number of magazines but they are thinner (don't complain to me we just print them)

For all of you bibliophiles, here is a link.

EdwardRHamilton.com

Lots of hard covers and paper backs at good prices. These are mostly remainders but there is a good range of subjects. They sell by their site and the mailed flyer.

I have found artifacts and arrowheads in many states, and often as a kid wished I "was there" to see it first hand.

IMO, finding any "worked" stone tool is tremendous thrill...The fact that you may be the first person to touch a "point" etc...in hundreds or even thousands of years is beyond words...

I think being in a place where you find a spear point or arrow head opens the imagination well beyond what any author can surmise or write on supposition.

When you uncover an arrow head etc. you are holding something that took hours of highly skilled hands on labor to produce that was as important to the original owner as any of your own (important) tools you use frequently...

one author I know of who has been able to produce believable fiction is 'Elmore Leonard' from old wild west tales to modern street smart novels he is a master...

Just curious - did you read any Seton's books? He was a lot of inspiration for me especially Two savages if you know?

I don't recall the book, when I was young I read everything I could get my hands on. I even read most of my parents medical school books. I find those interesting too. I have read several books by author's mentioned by some of the other guy's.

Of course I read the Hardy Boy's, Nancey Drew, Little House On the prairie.

I wonder how long news print will exist?? Doesn't seem as viable now eith the internet as in years past.

I guess calling them "Texas Indians" says something about the way you think of them ?

I think you are taking offense where absolutley none was intended. Whether one says 'Texas Indians' or 'Native Americans living in what is now Texas', in the context of Western's post, is not offensive IMHO.

Anyone who takes an unbiased look at the American colonial/expansionist period realizes the Native Americans got a very raw deal. If we ever gave back to the Native Peoples what was stolen, or the Mexicans, or the African Americans following Reconstruction, we would cease to exist in our present form.

I love to read and worry that my nieces and nephews won't see the same value in paper books. They are so hooked on their computers and do not seem to read as much as they spend time on interactive applications.

As with the many of you, history is very fascinating to me. I'm reading everything I can about Canadian history and in particular enjoy Pierre Berton's books. For guilty pleasure I read rock band biographies - even though some of the stuff they have done is down right depraved.

Oh yes, and Uncle John's bathroom readers of course!
