i know there are many different types of gravel out there depending on the region/supplier, etc but am just curious what folks are paying for this prized item. we use it all over the place around here, esp in western wa where it seems to be wet wet wet 8 months out of year. 3 years ago when i got my first load (14ton) it was $225, now it's $285 (same guy delivering it). i have had quotes as high as $400. what i normally get here is called 1 1/4 minus or 5/8 minus, it's basically crushed basalt with fines (the minus).. in some areas i think it's called crusher run. anway i use it for pathways around the barn, in the paddocks, on the driveway, etc.. just curious what you are paying for bulk purchase..

cheers!

3 years ago I paid $14 per ton, which is a bit higher than your price then.

Haven't bought any in a couple of years.

I get 10 tons of limestone for about $150 delivered. We live 5 miles or so from the where they get the limestone.

2 years ago in Thurston County I paid $20 a ton delivered... and I bought a lot...

I think it's around $275 for inch and a half minus. $300 for three quarter inch minus.
The quarrys are eighty miles round trip. Red gravel is half that but is not crushed
stone. It's just pit run with clay/sand fines...

Edit: Oops! That's for a triaxle load.
Most are around 20 ton cap.

The guy I buy from has the lowest prices around and he charges $13.75 a ton for pea gravel. Gray Breeze (crusher fines used for walkways) is $18.50 a ton. Recycled asphalt and concrete goes for $14.95 a ton.

I just priced gravel (sewer line size) by the ton that I will pick up. It is running from $45 to $75 a ton depending who you call locally. This anywhere from landscapers to concrete plants asking these prices. Price it now and it will blow you away, like concrete, on how much the price sky rocketed. I used to pay $20 a ton back in 1997.

Most around here sell it by the cubic yard.

This August I paid $10.50/yd for 3" minus, $13/yd for 1" minus and $15.25/yd for stone dust. Those are delivered prices. It's granite.

A 16 yard load fills a triaxle dump truck to legal load limits.

Last spring I paid 400+ for 14 tons of 22a crashed blue stone. When I show up with my trailer, I pay lump sum of $35 - it used to be $20 in 2003 and over the years it sneaked up. I can fit about 1500 - 2000 pounds on my trailer.

Bindian, You may want to check with a couple of the rock pits around Dolen Tx, (Dolen, Tx is hole in the wall town about 8 miles south of Shepard Texas) The last I brought down there was around $14 dollars a ton for washed river rock.

Tim

Dunno about all the various designators but I bought:

3/4" Road Mix - $5.30/yd
Reject Sand - $3.65/yd

Plus $85 delivery for dump truck and trailer, if you have just the truck I think it was $65. You can get up to 13 yards or so each on truck and trailer for that flat delivery fee... so it pays to max out. I live about 5 miles away but the delivery charges are done by 'areas' not road miles. If you don't get a full load you are usually paying more for delivery than the product.

Tim,
Sweet.:) I just put it together. Dolen Gravel Pits! We used to fish and camp:cool: there when I was almost too little to remember! As I remember, they hauled a lot out at night by train. Dad made the comment he couldn't tell it it was train noise or my cousin snoring! Can you get me a contact phone number?;)

If you buy stone by the ton, do they adjust the price by moisture level?

I don't know which I prefer, a ton is a ton on a scale ticket, a yard you sort of have to eyeball and hope you are getting what you paid for, but you don't pay for water.

I am paying real close to $22 per ton for #1's and #2's delivered. I just got a quote for 30 ton of #57 limestone (typ. driveway gravel) for $20/ton. Having 950' of driveway sucks!

I just bought 2 loads of Class A gravel, our typical driveway stone in Nova Scotia. It was 34 tons delivered for $520 dollars including tax. I know that the quarry sells it for less that $10 a ton(approximatelly a yard). The stone would be $340 and trucking $180.

30 ton for a 950' drive. I wouldn't think that would be a good start.

Just paid $180 for 10 yards (minimum order) for local, bank gravel. Similar to creek gravel, but with lots of packing sand loam.

That is ALL one can seemingly afford around here. Honest, I am only 2 miles from the area's largest cement plant and they re cycle crushed concrete, but who can afford it? Twice the money. Forget crushed limestone. Out of sight.

To what do we attribute this? Mere inflation of high fuel costs? I dunno.
