was on my way to work this am, and the county mow crew was out mowing row and medians. must have had a new guy on the tractor looked like a ts 100 on a 15' batwing... wings folded but no transport locked.. he wipped it around from one lane of traffic at high speed, drove over median and sharp turned into other oposing lane of traffic.. while traffic was present.. turn was sharp enought that it jack-knifed the mower.. then he jambs in reverse quick while still jackknifed, and skids the mower back about a foot till one set of rear wheels hits the tall curb of the median.. at the same time his wings flop bad and one starts coming down. mower torques up on one side that has wing still up.. this is the high one at the curb side.. whole thing looked like it was gonna go over, as the tractor had also backed on rear and one front onto the curb... traffic on both sides of the 2 lane road screeched to a halt, and sbout 10 other road crew people were running ver to the mower waving their arms.. someone gets the guy to idle the machine down ( was running full tilt it sounded like ).. and then lower the wings fully.. then pull forward and tot he right to get the tractor off the curb and pull out of the jackknife.. this got everything near strasight, then he pulled up onto the median straddling it.. then they all stasrted looking hte thing over.. traffic resumed.. etc.

guess it was the new guy's turn to drive the expensive tax payer owned training device??

a "Get Well Soon" wish to you Soundguy. Funny how these things work, but it always amazes me that there had to be some sort of "Supervisor" involved with "assigning" this inexperienced jackarse to operating the equipment on a highway !!!????.......no?

Oh, but of course this could get you a 20 page discourse on all the ridiculous decisions, (mostly government) that somebody's "Supervisor" had to actually make a decision to "OK" !! I am not necessarily "bragging" but my experience claims our Ontario (Canada) top "Supervisor's" should be the recipient to "that" bouquet of withered weeds!!

OH me OH my,...but it sure do cause a fella wonder do it not?

CHEERS!

PS: .....just reading it over,...sounds like a political statement,..which it was most definitely NOT meant to be,...I can delete the particular group if necessary? (IF they want to lay claim to the prize?) (But I'd have to get the request OK'd by a Supervisor I spose?)

yep.. somebody must not have had enough tractor hours.. in fact.. they didn't even have their signs up.. they were still setting in the back of the trailer on the back of the county road dept. work truck. about 6 guys out there walking around aimlessly.. and one guy driving a tractor like he was a blind and drunk racecar / roller derby driver.

fingers are doing good.. knife was clean and ultra razor sharp.. cuts are actually healing much better than I expected.. still a pain to not be able to use that hand for most things.. oh well.. coulda been alot worse..

Yep, it could have been a lot worse. (a dull rusty jagged knife comes to mind).

Hope it gets better soon.

That's just one isolated case of wasted tax $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ can you imagine how much of this stuff happens????? We were driving to town a couple weeks back and came accross one of these "operators" mowing. He had the tractor at such an angle that he was leaning over the high side fender. We slowed down and just watched waiting for him to tip the tractor over, one small rock would have easily done it. When we finally got around this dork he was stuck. the only way out was to back up the way he drove in. Oh well I quess anybody can just get on a machine and drive it...... heck thim thar big tired mowchines cin bee droven by dum fok

They are mowing around here the last few days. I came home to four big JD's with batwings parked in front of my house and a service truck. I don't know what they were doing, but everywhere we looked, it seemed somebody was mowing. This is the third day of it and I'm really enjoying seeing them work. I'm just impressed as heck with what they can do and the angles they mow on. Seeing four of them going along just behind each other and to the side is TOO COOL !!!!!!!

Hey Soundguy,...sorry I should have mentioned this before but "seriously" an open wound like that,..if you pour white granulated sugar right into the wound, it will kill germs, become an antibiotic and heal up in no time. That is from my own personal experience, numerous times. Honey will do the same. Just change the dressing often and you'll be amazed!!

I have an old First Nations elder, friend who taught me that many years ago and believe me it works!

Just so the sugar doesn't pour all over the floor,...mix it with a tiny bit of Betadine (a few drops only) and stir it into a paste, then apply it and cover with a bandage.

The best to you,
. . tug

PS: Eddie,...talk about precision working machines,...up here in winter the snow plows gang up on the multi-lane highways,...8 or 10 trucks, one behind the other slightly offset to overlap the others windrow ,...all moving at speed and snow just-a-flyin,..quite a sight!! But especially at night like a row of moving Christmas trees ha, ha!

AHH you cut your hand and you are bashing the county worker!!!

my knif accident didn't endanger 45000$ of taxpayer equipment, cost of the 2 vehicles near him ( 40k$?? ) the life of the operator of that equipment, the lives of both drivers of the vehicles in the near lanes to him as he whipped the tractor around and over the median in high gear , high rpm, nor the cleanup and associated ems costs had an incident occured, plus the loss of time / work for that crew that day.

so yes.. I made a mistake reaching into a dark bag and minorly injured myself.. the other guy made a pretty good error thast at least endangerd 3 lives if not more plus a whole lot of liability for machinery and vehicles..

The operators that impress me are the combine ones. Seeing them run cutting a crop and unloading at the same time is impressive. Not sure if the combine driver is the great one or the truck driver or it really is a great team effort.

As to soundguy cutting his hand was a bad move as proven by the results. Will say if his worst decision in life he had done much better than me. I made about same dumb move a couple of years back reaching for a blade on lawn mower, it was a sharp as a razor and had no issue slicing my finger. No stitches but so clean it left no scar. The one place men often fail to checking to be sure it is safe is shoes or boots...spiders like them and can be fatal slipping a foot on top of some of them.

Our dishwasher broke and we have to manually wash dishes until we buy a new one (I'll survive, I suppose) and my wife has a habit of tossing her very, very sharp kitchen knives into the soapy water for me to find.

Hope you heal up well. :)
