Actually, it's not that they won't fold, it is just really, really hard...

Occasionally we see cars getting stuck on our road, basically spinning their wheels in the ice....Can this tractor pull a regular sized car....at all? (I assume not) We get asked all the time in winter to help pull stuck cars, which is the reason for the question.

Any tractor that has chains will have more traction than a car slipping on ice and you will be able to assist someone to get back underway. If they are well off the road that is a different matter. Of course if they can't handle the icy conditions to start with I'd be cautious about pulling them out with a relatively short chain.

I have a BX2350 which I believe has a smaller engine than the tractor you are considering and have used it a few times to pull someone who has driven partially off our driveway onto deeper snow. If you don't have the power or traction to pull someone the tractor will soon let you know by spinning its wheels.

If you can't pull them out with a slow steady pull then it's time for another solution. One thing I wouldn't do is to take a running start to jerk them free. Too much stress and unpredictable results.

I expect that the towing concern is really a side issue and that you will spend much more of your time enjoying your tractor for other chores. Best of luck with your purchase.

Thanks! That is correct.

Unfortunately, we get "stupid people" driving down our road in winter, who have no clue about driving in snow and ice. We even had a Sprinter medical van get stuck (very stuck!) on an icy snowy dirt road almost a mile into the forest. They were very lost apparently. The auto club tow truck who came for the van somehow collided with it, and caused 6K in damage. Ouch!

Anyway, we're anxious to get this tractor and get to work on our property:)

People will actually sue you if you try to help them and a part falls off their car? I've never seen that happen (a part falling off or front end damage or something) and I've pulled out a lot of cars and been pulled out. I guess I must be very naive and spoiled because I live in Maine where people actually help each other out in those situations without a second thought about that crap.

Obviously, you are a better man than I.

TripleR -Well, I don't know if I'm a better man, maybe Mainers just have a better idea where to hook the tow chain onto and when to quit if it doesn't work. We get alot of practice at that stuff.:)

Chuck - I think northern N.E. is the sanest place in the country! ;)

Well - I just watched the utube vid and yeah that's pretty bad. However trying to pull and then snatch a car through a snow bank is pretty dumb.

Agreed, that was the point in one of my original posts. I can't seem to find a place on the newer cars that I am comfortable hooking a chain to. It seems the newer they are the less there is to hook to and that seems to go beyond cars. The first time I decided to haul my Grizzly somewhere, it took me and my son forever to find anything underneath to hook to and actually wound up hooking to the racks.

I have probably spent too much time in courts and have become cynical.

My son and son in law are Police Officers who use to help people unlock their cars when they locked their keys in. In spite of their warnings of possible damage, invariably when something got damaged, the owner expected to be reimbursed. Now no one carries anything to get into cars and people have to pay for a locksmith.

A guy borrowed my son's window breaker to break his own window the other day as his insurance would pay for a broken window, but not a locksmith.

You probably are a nicer guy as I just am not willing to take the risk; sad.

I have to admit I have thought twice about helping people with out of state plates and we get alot here (ie "tourists"). I think they tend to think of the full time Maine residents as service people and that could lead to the trouble you are talking about. Not that we don't have some loonies from in state, there just seems to be fewer of them here maybe. But I guess I have hi-jacked the thread long enough. It is sad that you have to be afraid of helping people nowdays. Maybe we should all carry around waivers for people to sign. :) Insurance companies are busy running the world.
