So I just got my 235 Friday and there are several very small rust spots apparent. I know it has been sitting in the dealers yard, but I feel it should have been painted better. There are two spots about the size of a penny on the loader arm, where the paint is actually chipping. The loader arm alo shows some rust color around some welds. For the most part the tractor itself doesn't show any rust, but a few of the cracks where sheet metal meets shows some rust color.

I uderstand that rust coloring/bleeding is going to show on the white paint, but it doesn't seem right, and the paint chipping on the loader arm I think is a problem, but I have never owned a tractor before, so I am not sure if it is normal. Should I push the dealer for a new unit, or just get them to ship me some touchup paint. I should not that I have not signed the purchase paperwork or send them the bank check yet as the bank is mailing it to me now.

I also don't have it covered yet, but will be building a shed for it before winter.

I would treat it just like a new car, if there is a problem, it is the dealers responsibility to correct it to your satifaction or replace it .

How odd..

Though a bit of sandpaper and some primer and matching paint may take care of it.. If your dealer is close, have him do it. Otherwise, have fun. :)

When I visited my local Kioti dealer last week, I noticed a relatively large rust spot (5" or 6" long) along the edge of a "new" backhoe he had on the lot. It made me wonder how long that implement had been sitting outside. I suspect that the rusted section had been scratched at some point therefore exposing the metal.

I'm not sure how the metal on a tractor compares to that of a car, but I would not leave a rust spot unattended on a new car. I second rcrcomputing's suggestion.

It would be a pain to get it all the way up there. I am going to see if they will ge a bunch of paint. I know it is going to get dinged up and need it anyway.

I went to a local dealer to look at a CT230 and noticed it had three little rust spots on the rear fender just to the right of the seat. I didn't really look it over that well because it was a unit that was already sold but I thought that was kind of cheap looking.

The early production tractors had problems with poor paint quality and have improved now on newly produced tractors. The dealer should rectify the situation for you. I would check with them.

Thanks, I was beginning to whonder about that. I don't want something that wasn't painted correctly to begin with. It is one thing to touch up a some dings and spots, but a poor quality paint job is another ball of wax. I could end up painting the whole thing. I'll let you know what the dealer says.

The saleman said it shouldn't have gone out like that and offered to pick it up and repaint the loader and check the rest. He said they were really busy now and thought it might be better to see if any other chipping and rust occurs. We agreed that around 50 hours is good, that way I get free pickup and drop for the 50 hour service. I was going to do it myself, but it's there anyway I may as well spend the extra few hundred to have them do the first one. They said they put it on dyno and do a bunch of other stuff to make sure it's tip top.

Picture this senario..
Salesman quits, you take it back at 50 hours. They say you did it...

Just playing the devils advocate here..

Well .... While I was at the dealer that was one thing I had noticed about these tractors..... It looks as if the units are painted quite pooly!!!

The ones on the lot were rusting and looking closer it seems as though they do not put any primer on any of the parts before they are painted!! they are just slapped one with paint and there fore will be rusting within weeks of use after being bought... So for this is another reason why I have been standoffish from buying one of these!

Although almost everything from soup to nuts is being made cheaper and cheaper and being sold at top dollar to make the BIG BUCKS for the company! The one left holding the bag and all the problems is you and me... the consumer / costomer.... I went into a "GREEN" place and was treated like a piece of crap from a sales guy... and they think I would ever buy from them???? I dont think so.... There were 6 guys just standing there doing NOTHING.... no wonder they want so much for the stuff .... they have to pay a bunch of lazy, do nothing, people top dollar for standing there with fingers up their noses....

But as for your problem, I think it is a nation wide issue.... and I feel the costomer comes first and QUALITY makes a heck of a differance!! ;) and if you are happy and then you tell others and they will go and buy one and the cycle will grow!! :) and everyone will be happy!!! :D So go and let the dealer know that the machines in Depere Wisconsin are peeling as well, and they need to do something about it!! DON'T JUST SIT ON YOUR HANDS  and DO NOTHING..... then nothing gets done about it~! JUST DO SOMETHING ..... You paid alot of cash for it and you want it to last awhile I am guessing!! So good luck!!!!!

I just bought a CT230 this past Thursday and mine had a few spots where rust was starting. The first thing the dealer told me when I got there was there was some things he wanted to show me. We went out and we looked at the places were the rust was starting. He pointed them out to me so he had already looked it over pretty good. He told me that most dealers do not have the room to store these units inside and that was the reason many of them have some rust showing on them and also the reason that BobCat was offering these great programs. They wanted to offload some of these units that have been sitting.

None of my spots were bad enough that it really bother me too much. I can touch them up if I need to but he did ask me to sign a form that said he showed me the spots and that the dealer would not be held responsible for repainting them.

So far even though I was gone over the weekend, I am happy with what little I have used it. It sure beats having a shovel in hand!

Almost all of the ones Ive looked at have rust spots in the same areas. One thing is for sure they sure do stand out on the white paint.

Odd thing is, the tractor is painted in Korea by Daedong (sp?)
the loaders are Rhino.

BTW, my kioti CK20S has no rust showing :)
Maybe the white paint is a problem?

I was at a dealer today looking at a 230, It had a few spots on it,nothing too serious. the 235 next to it was bad. rust on the loader arms and in the hood seams. Paint was peeling off the frame and it was weathered bad. It was dated 03/08 under the hood. My deere is 10 years old and has rarely been undercover an it still looks better than the newer 230 paint wise.

I have a CT235 that I bought around the same time. My dealer actually had a CT235 on the lot but recommended I factory order because they were fixing the paint issues on the line. It took 6 or 7 weeks to get (maybe longer, I just remember waiting forever!) but I have to say it was worth the wait. The paint job on mine is well done. Plus the dealer threw in a weeks worth of trackhoe rental for free because I had to wait longer than the 3-4 weeks he esimated! Great guys there!

All the Bobcat/kioti tractors have poor paint jobs. The metal parts on the loaders, fenders and hoods have sharp edges that should have been sanded round. Paint will not cover a sharp edge unless there a enough coats to round of the edge and that is about 6 or more coats. Our tractors have about 3 coats and it seems without primer. The only way to keep paint on this low grad korean steel is with rounded edges, epoxy primer and lots of good paint.
Suggestion, buy one that arrived yesterday and bring it inside, spray all seams with Rust-check, Crown or Rustblock and keep touching up all nick with Rust paint and Kioti/Bobcat paint on top to match. Rust paint does not require primer but unless you are spraying your tractor paint over the rust paint as soon as it tacks over you need to wait 3 or 4 days before top-coating with the tractor paint. These tractors are well built for the price but in 10 years of sitting outside, the Kiotis and Bobcats will all be the same color. Guess what color that will be.
