Kioti DS45 Crane Attachment?

I am not sure what a crane attachment is??? Do you mean a pole loolking thing that hooks to the 3 point hitch??

Do you own that? If so, is it worth it? I am curious, I don't have much use for it other than getting to some upper windows on my house.

I do use it but I must admit that because I also have forks it doesn't get used all that much. I use it when it is easier/safer to chain or strap something rather than stick a fork under it. I will also use it to reach over a seawall to pull up a float. Basically it can be very useful but it doesn't get used a lot. If I had to do it over I'd just use the FEL 3pt adapter I got from Rick Wallace and mount a 2x2 pole into one of the attached hitch receivers.

I've got one from markham that I got elongated. No call to use it yet, but it was cheap - 200 or so. And when it comes time to re-shingle my house, which it will soon, I know I'll appreciate it.

Planting big trees seems to be their main use. I've just wished I had a crane a number of occasions, and am happy that next time I'll have one. Probably won't be long enough or some such, but that's life...

You could securely lash an extension to a tree boom. Remember that sailers used lashing to hold spars together so the proper lashing technique can be very strong. The real issue I would worry about with a 25ft plus boom with a load would be the risk of upsetting the tractor. It can be done safely but would require planning for lateral stability as well as rear ballast.

Would also need some serious loader capacity depending on the weight.

Getting it out in front of the tractor makes things super heavy.

I know with my forks alone I can really feel it when I've got 500 lbs or so out in front of me.

First, you need to know the max height your lift arms will go, and work the math to see how much extension to you loader arms you will need. Below is a link to one company.

Although you know what you want, you have to consider if your tractor can lift that high, and pick up a certain load. The further out your boom is, the less you can pickup. For instance, if you can lift a thousand lbs at the lift arm pins, what can you lift at 5, 10, or 25 ft. horizontal.

You could buy or build something like the boom in the picture, which has an extension inside the boom pole, or adapt something to you loader.

I'd doubt your kioti can lift much 25 feet out. Huge lever effect.

You could crudely figure the load capacity (very crude, but at least in the right order of magnitude) by calculating the torque at the loader arm attachment pins. So say your DK can lift 2000lbs and the arm length to the lift points is 8 feet. You have approximately 16,000 lbs of torque at the arm attachment point. Now to figure in your extention (8 feet of loader arms and 25 feet of extension = 33 feet) and divide the torque by the lever arm and you'll have a lift force of approximately 485 lbs.

Others have mentioned it and I'll stress the point. Getting the load up might work, but the tipping forces due to its size, swaying and sail like shape will be very hard to control and most likely put the tractor on its side. The ratio used for the lift is not exactly similar for tipping force on the tractor as weight at the pivoting front axle takes weight off of the stable rear axle. For example, it may take 100 lbs of horizontal force applied at the extended bucket to overturn the tractor, but the sideways force could be only 25 lbs when extended based on the ratio above. But that asumes the front axle is fixed and that weight distrubution is perfectly centered over the center of gravity. We know that is not even close. So a slight breeze or a slight tug from the guy on a guide rope could make a nice day turn into a nightmare.

A better approach may be a long boom pole on the back of the tractor with solid stabilizer feet and a PTO operated winch. A member here made a small one and it was a thing of beauty.

I call one of the Kioti dealers, and he gave me this info. Tilt force with bucket on ground is 2990 lbs. Lift force at the lift arm pins is 3700 lbs. I don't know if my math is right, but here is what I figured. If the lift arm is say 10 ft, and the lift cylinder is mounted at the 5 ft. from the back pin. That means that at the lift pins the tractor can lift 3700 lbs at the bucket pins. So, with a

5 ft boom, it could lift 1850 lbs
10 ft -----------------1233 lbs
15 ft------------------935 lbs
20 ft------------------740 lbs
25 ft------------------616 lbs

Now,consider the weight of the boom, and subtract that from the lifting weight. The boom would also have to secure the end of the boom back to the back plate near the lifting plate as in say this picture.

Just guessing a 24 ft truss weighs about 100 lbs.

I've always figured I'd use mine (around 10 feet from QA plate) only with backhoe on and stabilizers down.

Any thoughts on that? m59 backhoe is obviously a pretty heavy counterweight.
