Is there anybody that has any tips and info. about the 2440? Any tips, hints, and experiences would be greatly appreciated. I will be using it and the loader for everyday chores and possibly for hay next year.

The 2440's are very good tractors but they are getting some age on them. Built from about 1975 til 82 or so. It is 60 pto HP and came it several variations. If the tractor is in good condition it will be dependable and still do alot work. A worn out one could be a money pit.

Good luck,
Dave

I have a 2640, should be the same just a little more HP.

If you have any slop in the steering,

Left side above clutch pedal there is a cover about 3.5". Pop it off with a screwdriver and see if the big bolt inside is tight. 200ft\lbs if I recall correctly.

If you use the tractor/loader with this bolt loose you will tear up the spline on the shaft and lever. New parts are about $900. Just guess how I know. Mine had over 5000 hrs on it when I replaced these parts.

Ive had ours for 3 years and repaired the following so far.

Rebuild water pump
Rebuild alternator
New voltage regulator
Repair leak in radiator around neck
New front tires
New bushings in steering plate between tie rods
New steering shaft and lever mentioned above

For its age I guess I cant complain, good strong running tractor.

Dave is so right.

My father bought one in 1979 or 1980 and liked it but still preferred his 3020 and 4020 even though they were older.

If I were shopping for a good used tractor in that size range my biggest concern would be the overall condition as it can cost a lot to restore them. My hunch is if after 30 years or better they still look good then they likely had good care. And I don't mean just a new paint job either.
