I speced a 4520 with cab an 400cx loader on the deere site an came up with about 45k so I was thinking 40k at the dealer, but is that cab worth $6000 more I mean i have no problem with the cold in winter or heat in summer so should i go for the cab or not it would save alot of money if i didnt get it, but how do you all like your 4x20s an are you happy with OS or CAB?

"I mean i have no problem with the cold in winter or heat in summer"

To me, it's not so much the temperature as it is all the dirt and dust....and wasps!!! ;)

I agree with trook. I am satisfied with my 4520 cab tractor.

You should be able to buy for $38,000.

I bought a 4520 cab last year. It replaced a 4720 open station.

This tractor rocks,

If you can swing the extra $$$$; it's money well invested - IMO. The resale or trade-in value of the tractor will be way better down the road and your present day comfort will be worth every penny, too!!

After a few year's of using an open-station in the winter and then sitting in a warm cab plowing snow - it's not even a real debate.... Get the CAB!

Yes, I am saying that for a list of $45,000 you should be able to purchase for $38,000.
On mine I added 3 wheel weights per side on rears, 5 front weights, telescopic links, economy pto, extra lights and other options. I also purchased a 673 tiller and Frontier field cultivator came to about $45,000 list. Total was $38,000 out the door.

What all are you looking at getting on the tractor. I paid less than $38K for mine.

Get the telecopic 3 links - makes life so much easier.

I'd say you could get it for 38k no problem. Here's a link to a dealer here in Texas that offers that model in a package (package 24). Nice looking tractor, post pics when you get it.

telescoping draft links
hood guard
3rd valve

Im not going to get wheel weights Im going to have tires loaded also i think im going to go with ag tires sence it will be on the farm most of the time I will also use a finsh mower to keep the grass nice around the house.

I would pass on the vertical exhaust - it is a headache.

What are you going to load the tires with? I looked at a bunch of options on loading and went with the factory JD wheel weights - 2 on each side.

Get the heavy duty bucket.

Any use for a grapple? Might want the plumbing for that.

why is the exhaust a headache???? an Im going to get the 3rd valvle for a grapple or what ever i might need in the future, an im not sure what they use to load tires the do it at the dealer for free with your tractor purchase.

My understanding on the exhaust is that you have to remove the stack to open the hood. That would get old in a hurry.

I would check on the loading - not always cheap. Weights are pretty cheap and they don't leak out, aren't toxic, etc.

Darin is correct. You have to remove the exhaust to open hood.

I would also use rear wheel weights

well i guess the exhaust is out of the question if you have to take it off to open the hood.. an to get the tires loaded at my dealer it would be free.

/ 4520 with cab price #17
Yeah - no brainer on the exhaust. I guess they didnt have enough room to do that right.

Loading the tires - just find out what they are putting in it. Water freezes - anti-freeze will kill your dogs if (when) it leaks, don't want something to rust your wheels out, etc.

Just about what it is worth, I put three 110# weights each rear and since I don't have a loader or want one I have five 70# front weights.
Weights last forever, liquid ballast last until you have a leak.

I have to disagree on the thought of the vertical exhaust for the 3000 & 4000 series tractors being a "headache". While yes you do have to remove the vertical pipe to open the hood, it really isn't that complicated, or time consuming. The pipe mounts on a new elbow that is supplied with the kit, like this:

Then it seperates right at level with the hood, like this:

And then it ends up looking like this:

IMO, I would get the vertical exhaust. It gets the fumes up above you and into the air, then they aren't being sucked into the cabin through the filter. While yes you might not be able to smell them and it might not be a problem at all, your better off having those fumes go up and away instead of having them linger. Having to remove the exhaust to open the hood is really a none issue. It comes off very easy, just a wiggle and it slides right off. Plus, how many times are you really going to be opening the hood when you go to use it other than when it needs service. You can check the oil without opening the hood and if your having to do that much service on your tractor than you have bigger problems than removing the exhaust all the time.

The main reason they design it this way is because the 3000 & 4000 series tractors are modeled more to homeowners, people who have for years just used garden tractors. Look at those models, they just look like over sized garden tractors with an immense amount of features. The vertical exhaust kit is more of an option on those tractors than anything else because they figure most owners don't like the look of it anyway. Personally to me it isn't about looks, but more about function. IMO, the vertical exhaust is a necessity on a diesel tractor. Breathing all those fumes from the low, horizontal exhaust is ridiculously stupid.

good point with the liquid only last till you have leak I think I will go with wheel weights an thanks wh401 for telling us the benifits of the exhaust I think its a good idea myself to have the fumes go up into the air instead of down to the ground.
