Yeah, trucks can be used to pull a load, especially diesel trucks but what will your's get for an ET in the standing quarter mile????

Ya gonna put propane induction kit on it???

Pat

No i'm not putting anything on it and I could not give a HootInHell what the ET for a standing quarter mile is.

I'm done with any serious modding of trucks as well. Maybe some airbags or a hitch, but I'd doubt I'll do anything under the hood. There's no need to anymore. We have more power than we know what to do with.

One thing I do like about Ford is they're the last privately owned American car company......for now.

When I grew up there was 10 of them.

Unbelievable times we live in.

Let's see . . . there's General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, Studebaker, Packard, American Motors, Henry J (well, actually Kaiser), Hudson, Willys, and Frazer. I've driven cars by all of those. Were there others?

You forgot Hudson, Rambler which became American Motors,,,

Actually Hudson and Nash merged to form AMC, in 1954. Rambler was a brand of Nash. George Romney wanted to merge Studebaker-Packard with AMC as well. I wonder how that would have turned out if it had actually happened, although all four of those independents were in pretty rough shape in the mid fifties, getting hammered by GM, Ford, Chrysler's price wars. With the recession in 1958, AMC was saved by the re-introduction of the compact American.

Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg and a whole plethora of other makes in the early part of the 20th century.

I could not agree more even though I have modified my 03 Powerstroke mildly. I currently run a 60 HP tow program with appropriate gauges and modified intake and exhaust systems. I even put an additional tranny cooler on it. Probably overkill but I want it to last.

I too have a brand new hemi half ton Dodge and could care less how fast the thing goes. Those days were gone when running SS/C at Island dragway back in the late 60's. Closest I get today is watching TV, John Force and others on NHRA this week. Mine is for transportation and I got the full crew cab because I go to many lodge functions and always is a group of guys needing to go,, Much better I take 5 with me than have 5 separate cars going to the same spot,

Aren't they 5 seaters now? The new Rams have a center console instead of the fold down seat like mine. The best part about my 03 Ram is that it legally seats 6 and that has come in handy plenty of times.

My personal take as well, especially for my '08 Ford PS diesel.. My '97 Dodge "needed" a little "fussing." I put on 4 inch exhaust and changed the injector pump to a much higher pressure and the injectors to ones with much smaller holes. I got more HP, more, torque, and a little better mileage at the same time through increased efficiency. The down side was I twisted off the input shaft to the automagic tranny.

I have no clue about 1/4 mile times on any car I have had since my 1966 Sunbeam Tiger with the HiPo Mustang V-8 with top speed of 165MPH. Tigers would turn about 13 or a tad less in the quarter at about 108MPH.

I always liked the looks of the Tiger and I call it the "Poor man's Cobra." I'll bet you had fun with that car.

I checked the mileage on the new Hemi and I got 16 mpg driving around these twisty and hilly roads I travel, that was expected. However, I took a 170 mile trip on the highway yesterday and was pleasantly surprised - 22 mpg. I guess the MDS system works very well.

I'm in a very hilly area also and get 16 and over most of the time,, Haven't been on any type of highway cruise yet.. I will be going to Boston Tuesday so I will see then.

Very nice! The beauty of the MDS (Multi-Displacment System) is that as long as you stay at highway speed and can stay below 50% throttle you will run in 4-cyl mode and save a ton of gas and it's so seamless you barely know it's switching modes besides the dash light. 22mpg in a full size 390hp truck is great.

My Tahoe has that, too and for a large vehicle, it's not that bad on fuel.

Mine will seat 6. It has the fold down console, but there is a seat belt there. Here is the final pic after I added the bugsheild, running boards, mudflaps and bedliner. I also had a teflon paint treatment done. It is supposed to last 5 years and eliminated the need for waxing.
