Yanmar 1700 valve adjustment

I've just put my tractor back together and am questioning the recommended valve setting @.0059 in. This seems really loose,anyone have any suggestions.

You had best ask your question in the Yanmar forum below.

But, doing a quick search under valve adjustment in that forum I found that both the Yanmar 1600 and the later F16D take a valve setting of 0.006-in. intake and 0.008-in. exhaust, cold. So looks like your specs are pretty close. On the other hand, for a little perspective, my Iseki TS1610F with 2-cyl. 1-liter Isuzu diesel takes 0.017-in. on both the intake and the exhaust (right out of the Service and Repair Manual). And it runs great.
