HI all,

Was looking at one of these tractors to run my JD 24T small square hay baler. Is it even possible to run this type of baler with a dependant pto? According to the manual I need a 540 or 1000 rpm pto.

Thanks,
Ryan

HI all,

dependant pto?

Thanks,
Ryan
Do you mean Transmission driven pto? if so then the pto should get a shock load operating a baler and moving the tractor both at the same time. live or independent pto should allow you to bring the implement up to speed and then move the tractor. I don't have particular experience with 850, but I know a friend that ran square baler with equally transmission driven 8N, but he said it is a rough ride and his 8n was squealing pretty bad.

JC,

Ryan,

Out of curiosity I searchd JD 24T and found below video. It showed the mentioned bailer with an engine that ran the baler. Is yours PTO driven or has it's own engine?

JC,
I've seen that video before mine is a 540 PTO driven baler and looks almost identical to that one minus the engine. Before live or independant pto drives they had dependant ones. Basically I believe the how it works is the PTO is directly tied to the rpms of the tractor and drivetrain. So when you slow down so does the pto.

I found a post on this site bailing hay without live pto that sounds interesting. Plan on looking at a few other tractors, and from what I've read a live pto is almost a necessity.
