What is the difference in these two machines and when would the need for the larger muscle come into play.

Is the extra muscle worth the cost or loss there of.

IMHO, the main purpose of the extra HP is to run larger PTO equipment. PTO Generators and PTO Chippers can consume enormous PTO power.

And it is a feather in the cap of Kubota so it can advertise "class leading" power.

In normal use, there is no benefit to the extra power. The tractor loses traction before it runs out of engine power. The loader has its own limitations by the pump, not by the engine...likewise with the BH.

Functionally, I believe there is a "step" taken between the BX1860 and the BX2360 by the extra length, extra tire size, increased ratings, and other factors. But between the BX2360 and BX2660, that is more of a personal decision.

I've been using my BX2230 (22 HP) for 3 years now for a vast variety of tasks, some requiring lots of pulling power, and have never once for even a moment wished I had more horsepower. Ag tires, perhaps. But not more power.

My good friend has a BX1850 and has been pleased as punch. He has a subsoiler and has buried thousands of feet of cable on his property...it has done just fine.

If I bought a new tractor right now, I'd get the BX25. If I didn't want the BH, I'd get the BX2360.

Keith is pretty much right on in his assessment on the BX series.

Biggest advantage of the BX2660 is at the PTO. The chipper really makes good use of the power. I have also noticed some advantage when pushing more heavy snow than I was accustomed to with my older BX2230 (That was a really good tractor). That might be a combination of the extra power and the rear tires being filled on this tractor. Went really well.

But he forgot that the BX2660 has a really nifty seat.

I didn't FORGET it. I chose not to mention it.

I really want to limit the number of people out there with that spectacular barcalounger of a tractor seat. [pout] It's just not fair. [/pout]

Kubota should have offered that with their "seat replacement program" last year...$30 and you can get that seat over there...$100 and you can get THIS seat. That would have been cool.

If this was the case, THEN I would have mentioned the superior seat.

If it makes you feel any better, I think there might be some difficulty with that seat to rotate for BH operation.

I've had a BX2200, BX1500 and now have a BX2350. The 26HP was available when I traded but for the money I chose the 23. I don't have heavy demands for PTO power and my experience is as you've been told. You'll run out of traction long before you'll run out of power. The BX1500 is probably adequate for most people for most power demands. Now that's the physical answer. The psychological answer is different. If your related to "Tim The Toolman" even distantly and that keeps working on your mind that you don't have the highest HP available for your size tractor then that's a different answer which you'll have to deal with. I've been there and paid the price. I can't cast stones since I purchased a B last week and bought the highest HP'd one the B3200. A 24 or 26 would have met my needs but the knowing there was the 32 out there would have kept me awake. Counselors can not help themselves.:) I have the BX2350 MMM for just mowing and it's more power than I'll ever need. I have the B3200 FEL for dirt moving and digging.

.... 2009 WRX Subaru ...

The WRX is a great car, and 265 HP is a lot of power, but doesn't knowing the STI is out there with 305 HP just.... ;)

I am very happy that I went with the 26 hp.
Snow removal jobs with chains on , or dragging logs with chains , tooth bar digging (now that I have one ) etc has utlized the full amount of horsepower without loss of traction , I plan on keeping the chains on year round for bush work.

Oh and I enjoy the seat too !

I know I will enjoy the seat and the available muscle just in case I find some uses as I grow into this thing. I'm just thinking of things to do. I may even create a Garden.

I doubt you'll be able to notice a difference between the two unless you happen to pick an extremely power hungry PTO attachment. Either of these tractors would have certainly fullfilled my requirements. I dunno why I thought I had to have a B series but I have it and I love it! :p

I just helped my father purchase a new BX2660 with a loader, weight box and 54" MMM. The price difference between the 23 and the 26 was $210.

Yep $210 buck thats it. Needless to say he is the proud new owner of a BX2660.

Now he is 'borrowing' all my implements. I came home Saturday afternoon to find him in the truck with my Woods landscape rake in the bed. AH well, they paid for college, I guess I owe him and Mom something! Ha ha ha.

Smarta??.:D Not for the difference in money and the difference in 0-60. Like 1 or 2 tenths of a second for $6 to $10 thousand more and that's what I love about it. I'm 61 and after about 110 different cars I do want one that won't beat me to death but one that will beat just about everything else on the road. Enjoy the puzzled looks of "what is that thing that old man is driving".:) Maybe I'll grow up one day.

OT but, same here. I've two red diesels. The 1988 Ford E350 7.3L diesel will smoke anything off the line, given a head start :) I can't count the number of times I've floored it on the freeway and literally smoked (black cloud) a car behind me. My new JSW TDI is quiet, unassumeable, and will frequently lay rubber from stoplights. I too get the looks of "how the HE!! did he do that?".
But break-in is almost over, got to slow it down :)

Just to chime in, let me say, I've had my BX24 for 1 1/2 years and the only time I needed a bit more was when I was pulling some boulders. Not rocks. These were huge. Barely fit in the bucket. I ended up putting a chain around them and pulled them, no problem. I was trying to set them in a rock wall and it was tough to roll with the FEL. They were very heavy. That task probably required a little more tractor, but outside of that job, the BX has performed flawlessly. More important than HP or size is seat time.

LBrown59, you can chime in anytime.

The more seat time you get, the better you can finesse the machine. I can do things now after 150 hours that I couldn't do with 5 hours. Just being able to get a full bucket every time, cuts work time down considerably. Use it, use it and use it.
BTW, the hard part is convincing your wife it's work.

Now I feel better.:) According to Car and Driver the 09 WRX is faster than the WRX STI and $10000 less. Plus it's #1 Fastest 09 under $30000 at 4.7sec 0-60mph.:D
