Transfer pump hose

I'll still be pumping out of a small can, but I think I'll probably go with service station type 3/4" hose and a nozzle that I can grab at the local TSC.
There's a cab on this tractor, so I can't stand up in the driver's area to lean over and pour from a can like I could on my previous tractor.

Same problem for me!
Simply impossible to hold 5 gal container at arms length and pour without spilling and getting all dirty from greasy FEL arms.
I use an 'cheepo' cast iron hand crank pump (about $19.00) from a 25 gal drum mounted on an old hand cart.
To adapt a hose I welded a 1/2" NPT to hose plumbing adaptor and use auto parts fuel line that I terminated with 90 deg PVC barb to barb PVC hose elbow.
The elbow works just fine as my nozzle.
Cranking the fuel is real easy going and takes but a few mins.
Really effortless (and clean).
When full I reverse crank to empty the hose contents back to the fuel caddy.

I have that type nozzle on my system but I got mine from Northern Tool becaus TSC was out of them at the time.

all my local 'real' parts stores like napa/carquest sell hose by the foot.. fuel line included.

This is a much nicer - better pump for only 68 dollars more
and the fittings to connect it to a 1/2 5/8 or other diameter hose are readily available.

If it were me I'd send the hand pump back to Northern and exchange it for this one.

As you probably recall, I did just that. The pump just arrived UPS. Now here's something funny: Remember when I said that it was the exact same pump and it was $109 compared to $140 at Northern Tool?
The receipt with the pumped looked very familiar. Just like Northern's. Had the same Ft. Mill, SC address, only the company name was Great Plains Manufacturers/Distributors.
This must be Northern's ebay branch. But I saved $31 for the pump, so I'd be the last to complain!
I know that I can get the service station type hose and nozzle at the local TSC. Finding a 15 gallon plastic drum with handle and 2 openings on top is the problem of the moment. I've got friends checking around locally and a wanted ad on the local Craigslist. Cheapest so far is $10 on ebay, but tack on another $15 to ship it to me. I'm thinking that someone with a pool close by will have one somewhere. I understand that chlorine or some pool chemical is shipped in those.

If you need some of those 15 gallon jugs with a handle stop by your local dairy farm, they will probably be more than happy to give you a couple of truck loads of them. All the local dairy guys around here are over run with them. They get their teat wash and other dairy chemicals in them.

1*Would you happen to have the name and address and part number off that receipt?
2*You can use the TSC nozzle and still go with 1/2 or 5/8 fuel line if you desire.
The nice part about that is you're not limited to just one length of hose .

I looked a long time for 30 and 55 gallon drums for my set up system.
4*The best deal I could find at first was a place in Columbus Oh. that reconditions drums.
Their drums were $25~for a 30 or 55 gallon your choice.
UPS shipping was 25 dollars per drum.
Then I got lucky a guy advertised 12 30 gallon drums in the paper.
I bought the whole lot of them for $36 and kept 2 of them for my set up and put the other 10 up for sale.
I still have one left for $15.
I still needed 3 55 gallon drums and found 1 at a flee market for $17 and 2 from a private party for $12 each.
My next door neighbor gave me a 15 gallon one just like you are talking about .
To bad you are so far away and I don't want to get rid of it.

All set now except for the fuel container. Have pump, 14 foot hose, nozzle, filter/water separator and fittings for all from TSC. Also bought a deep cycle marine battery for the pump.

1*I have a 30 gallon drum I've been offering for sale in the local paper for $15 ; but I'm thinking maybe I better keep it in case I want to build another fuel storage set up later.

4*I just used this battery charger.



It was always just setting around in the way doing nothing most of the time anyway.
Powering the pump with it gave me a handy easy way to store it and it's easy to disconnect from the pump if I need the charger for something else.
Going with the Charger which i all ready had saved me the cost of buying a battery too.
This arrangment has worked out very well for me.

Where the 90 degree elbow is will be another straight piece of pipe going into the diesel. Now if I could only come up with one of those jugs! I may have to bite the bullet and buy one online somewhere if nobody comes up with one this week.
