Hi, folks new here and have a few ? I've been looking at the bx1850. but can,t find much info on how well they do with a flat bottom plow, disk, and middle buster. as most folks use a tiller. these attachments are the only reason i would want or need this machine. thanks for any help

look at it's replacement, the bx1860. it does not have the abrupt stopping
transmission, that has driven many bx owners to distraction, or medical bills or ultimately to trading for the bx1860 or higher. super machine, just make sure to test drive it at the dealer-thru both ranges, forward and reverse.

Both will handle the attachments.

I use a KK middlebuster to touch up ditches and plow a garden. It works ok as long as you have enough traction. The height issue comes into play on your way to your working area. The max height is only about 3-5" off the ground during transport.

When I bought my BX2350 about 10 months ago, I was also looking at the BX1850. The reason I chose the 2350 was the ability to get R4 tires on it. I don't think the BX1850 will pull a flat bottom plow well with turf tires. The ag tires that come on the 1850 are similar to ATV tires and I think they may be more susceptible to punctures. If you could get decent tires on the 1850, I think it would do well. There is definitely no shortage of horsepower with the 2350.

Here's my BX1500 and BX23 with AG tires on them .
The tires are alike on both tractors except for size.
These tires are not similar to ATV tires.

Get the AGs = save the hassle of chains.
My BX23 Came with AGs.
The new BX1500 came with turfs.
The used BX1500 had turfs but I had the dealer take them off and put used AGs on it.
I didn't pay extra for any of the AGs.

I have a friend who owns the MiddleBuster/SubSoiler XB unit from TSC. He used the SubSoiler to run several thousand feet of cable to his home without any trouble at all.

The 3PH on the "newer" machines (1850/1860/2350/2360/24/25/26) have a higher 3PH location than the "older" machines like mine. It was one of the nicer changes Kubota made. This negates the issues with limited lift height in earlier threads.

Looks like you've already decided on ag's, but just so you know, I clear snow with my 1860 using the FEL and some kind of weight on the 3PH with turfs only. No problem at all, just drop it into 4WD. Whether you get ag's or turf's, I'd try plowing without chains first just to see. I think you'll be surprised how well it will perform with just 4WD and some weight on the 3PH.

I cleared my cul-de-sac's driveways of a 6" snow the Monday before last. All told, it is about 3/4 mile worth of driveway that I do exclusively with my FEL.

My configuration was: BX2230 with turf tires, FEL, 60" mower deck, and rear-mount Kubota bagger.

Don't ask me why I haven't bothered to take my deck off...I had sucked leaves up a couple of times during the winter and I get around just fine with it attached.

Didn't slide at all...in fact, I couldn't have wished for more traction. Never ran into a single traction problem during the exersize, which is normally the case with me unless doing extreme ground-engagement work or mired in a mud bog. Otherwise, I'm pleased as punch running round with turf tires. Haven't ever thought of Ags.

Keith,
I couldn't agree with you more. These are 4WD tractors and the turf's give excellent traction. For winter traction the more tread edge and sipping the better. The first three years with my BX2230 were great on turfs, with out any chains or the tires being filled. This year with my BX2660 again went well but my turfs are now filled. I actually did like this better. especially when using the FEL. Still no chains. Never even considered it and we have been getting alot of snow here lately.

For the record I now do have a second set of R4's which I didn't before. For my soil situation, my ground is pretty soft and the turfs are used for most chores, not tearing up the place too bad as the side walls are softer. The R4's put enough damage for me under these sandy conditions I can only imagine how Ag's would tear up the place. Holding that same thought my buddy has my old BX and put R4's on it and does everything with it with out damage or complaints. He has different soil conditions and thinks it looks cooler. Now the R4's have a definite advantage with their harder sidewalls, more open tread, and better load capacity. I do like to use them when using the loader or BH (if I had one) for engaging the dirt or carrying a load.

I also have never considered Ag's. I am sure that they have their place. but I don't plant anything. From some of the posts they seem more prone to flats, but love the mud. So it seems to me that the real difference in that application is just how far in you can go before you can get stuck. For now, I'll stick to the edges.

OP-Enjoy your new tractor. Regardless of tire, thats small stuff. Getting the tractor is the hard part. getting extra tires on rims for a tractor this size isn't that difficult or expensive. Some times its just fun to swap the tires to change the look, bring out the alter ego and profile. Let us know how it goes.
