Welcome, to TBN.

I have a 790 which is the old model number of the now 3005.

Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

What will you be using it for?

I love my 790. Less than 100 hrs but has done everything I asked, snow plowing and grading.

Hi Josh...and welcome to TBN!

Do some searches in the JD section on the 790 / 3005....lots of reading on this model. Many people like them due to the small size, economy and good horsepower for the size. Others feel its pretty light weight, but that depends on how you use it and weight added and such. Some also feel that for lots of loader work a hydro is a must have. Most users report good performance with 5 foot implements on the back.

I just got mine in December so I cannot provide much more than what I have read from the site and a little prior experience around "chinery".

Hi I had a 790 and just bought a new 3005. I am very pleased with this model. I feel the 3005 is the best deal for the money unless you want hydro. I have never thought weight was a problem. We get 120" of snow a year and I have never had problem moving it. This is a proven design that has a good track record. They upgraded the alt. to 40 amps which is nice. I would recommend.

.....I have never thought weight was a problem......

Me either, but my friends say I should go on a diet anyway.

Oh wait, you mean the tractor?

Anyway, I've had my 3005 for maybe a month now. I've used the loader and back blade to move snow, and it did quite well. I'm really looking forward to getting the bush hog (5 ft. King Kutter, which I am sure this tractor will do great with) on it this spring.

One of the things that has impressed me has been the handling of this machine. The turning radius HAS to be smaller than advertised. It really is " no effort" handling.

I traded in a New Holland TC30, which I really liked. I have to say that I think this tractor is just feels more solidly built. Even down to things like the lift arms and the top link seem to be build to withstand more than the rated load.

Welcome JT, I bought a 790 or 3005 now, right at a year ago, awsome so far. I had the rear rims narrowed up right to 48" for use in the tree farm rows. After finding the loader would not lift a full bucket of dry dirt and larger B&B trees, the dealer shimmed up the Hyd. releaf valve, that did the trick. Dealer support second to none also. Exellent power for all my emplements from an 8 foot row marker to 48 in tiller.

Do not buy a new 3005..! They last too long and they're stingy on fuel and they're too easy to work on yourself!

And they've got too much power for their size! If JD would just raise the price more... there wouldn't be these questions, either!! :D :D

Mech, thanks for the pics. I've been meaning to tell you - you've done some real good things with your 790 and the add-ons.

Keep it up - you're likely to give those engineers at Deere some more ideas to try out with the 3005...
