To keep things simple it's reasonable to say a 1-ton SRW regular cab truck can haul around 4,000 pounds. The MGVW's on these trucks are right around 10K, maybe a hair over/under depending on make/model. 4wd capacity will be a little less than 2wd, etc, but the difference is almost insignificant. If you add a heavy dumper body vs. regular pickup box you will have to allow for that. With a dually figure you can load an additional 1000-1500 lbs. What's the best I could haul in a Single rear wheel 1 ton ?
with and with out a dump bed.
Thanks LB.
I'd like to stay away from dual wheels.

1*I'm thinking a light weight flat dump bed with removable sides and front boards as well as a removable tailgate hinged both at the top and bottom.
These would only need to be 10 to 12 inches high.
2*Around 4000 pounds is just about right for me so a dually isn't necessary.
Sounds good to me as I would not be hauling that much that often that far, but it would be available if/when needed.FWIW, I've hauled two pallets of pellets (one ton each) in a 2007 dually (4 door C-3500 4WD diesel). It handled it fine BUT I could feel that the front end was a little light. It's not something that I would want to drive regularly over long distances. YMMV.

With the 4-door cab it is more difficult to keep weight on the front end when loaded heavy. Even if you place the 1st pallet all the way forward in the bed it's still a lot farther back from the front wheels than it would be with a regular cab.FWIW, I've hauled two pallets of pellets (one ton each) in a 2007 dually (4 door C-3500 4WD diesel). This is one reason why I want a long bed standard cab. With the 4-door cab it is more difficult to keep weight on the front end when loaded heavy. Even if you place the 1st pallet all the way forward in the bed it's still a lot farther back from the front wheels than it would be with a regular cab.
Is it possible a dump bed on a 4 door would lift the front wheels when the bed was raised to dump a couple of tons of gravel? You are correct but I don't think it makes much difference. I'm pretty sure that the bed on any 8' bed is balanced over the rear wheels. IOW, the weight is all over the rear axle, no matter what's in front of the bed. With a 4 door, you actually get the engine and cab weight levered more forward (percentage wise) than you would a 2 door.
