Just heard on the news that John Deere will be laying off/ firing around 700 workers.

Is now the best time to buy and stock up on tractors?

Has anyone heard any diffferent news on this?

JD has 50,000 workers worldwide according to the article. That represents a layoff of 1.5%. In this country the layoff is at the construction/forestry end which has been suffering for the past 2 years. I am surprised the layoffs are not bigger.

Maybe Deere & Company feels beholden to its employees .... It seems to me from their history that they have tried to look out for employees. I may be wrong ....

I am surprised too about the layoffs are not bigger, i think the news said that Caterpillar was laying off 20,000 workers.


I did notice something last week that i haven't seen before, there is a john deere dealer close to my house and a trailer dealer across the 4 lane, i was at the trailer dealer and two tractor trailers pull in at the JD dealer empty, they loaded up three tractors on one and loaded
up several buckets,bush hogs and other attachments then left.

I don't know if this layoff had anything to do with it or not, i always see them getting a delivery, never seen two trucks get a load from a dealer.

Maybe the dealer is going out of business

I may go there and snoop around in a couple of days and maybe ask
a few questions

Well that is more information than I caught on the evening news. I think it really shows how deep the economic problems are that both CAT and Deere are trimming work force. At least it isn't more severe. If there is any good news to this.

I think the news said there were 60,000 jobs lost today.

I heard it on cnn and then on my local news.
