We've all provided so much support and advice on so many other goals here on TBN, I was thinking we could help each other out in what tends to be the most popular New Year's resolution: Losing weight. They say that peer support and accountability really improve a person's chances of accomplishing a goal. I think this could provide both.

Here's the plan...

Starting on New Year's Day, everyone interested post with your current weight and your target weight and post whatever kind of reward you plan to give yourself if you accomplish your goal. We'll see if we can get enough of us together to lose the equivalent of a whole tractor. There must be enough of us wanting to lose 10 or 20 pounds that we can lose the equivalent of a CUT.

Each week we'll do a roll call posting our original weight, our current weight and our progress. Posting any tricks or techniques that have worked for us or haven't worked would be a great help too.

Sounds good to me! I'll join in. So we post on New Year's Day?

New Year's Day.

I think that will give enough of us time to see this thread and get ready. That way we can all start together.

How much are you planning to lose? At your age I'd think you're still trying to gain weight.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! That's funny! Oh, you were serious. I'm 180lbs. Way over weight. But, I'm fairly tall and muscular, so it doesn't show as much as it would a wimpy 5ft tall person. I'll say 15lbs.

I don't know if you can claim way overweight, but you're definately doing yourself a favor to start to learn good habits now. Good to have you on board!

Oh no, doctor told me I was obese.

My doctor told me I should weigh 165 lbs. At that time I weighed 185 and asked him to point out where I should lose it from. He agreed I looked just fine at 185, but now I'm up to 200 lbs. I can't convince the doctor it's all muscle so I'll shoot for 185. He doesn't give me grief when I weigh that much and I can fit into my old 32" waist pants again. I have a bunch of those that seem to have shrunk up hanging in the closet.

Another thing I've noticed. I have a workout bench and a stationary bike in the room adjoining the laundry room. Those two devices are great reducers. If you throw you clothes on them for a while the clothes definitely get smaller.

And another little thing when it comes to weight loss. Absolutely avoid walking. There's a group of ladies who walk around my neighborhood and all of them are grossly overweight. I think it's the walking doing it to them.

I'm thinking of writing a weight loss book. I could get rich if I fill it with all this great advice. Avoid wedding cake at all costs. It is very effective on the female but eventually works on the male. Just one piece can add considerable poundage in just a few short years. Divorce has the opposite affect though, but it's way too expensive.

Ha-ha. You are a true wiseman. But I always thought it was the wedding ring that made her gain weight. As soon as she took it off, the pounds come off too!

As far a losing a tractor here, are we talking a Cub Cadet or a Fendt?

I'll stay silent for the duration of this thread. I'm actually trying to put weight on, but not fat.

I figured that a smaller SCUT is about 1500 pounds. We could start there, and if we get enough participation, the contest may be to see how big of a tractor we can lose.

We can still count your progress. If your goal is to put on healthy weight, we'll just add your pounds gained the same as we would everyone else's pounds lost.

For reference, I'm including a link to a goverment web site that includes a Body Mass Index calculator and some guidelines. This may help in setting goals.

Body Mass Index Chart

I forgot to weigh myself last night at home, but I'm around 190. I'm not particularly muscular, so my target should be more to the center of the 19 to 25 target BMI range. 170 would put me at 23 for BMI. That means I've got about 20 pounds to lose. I'm hoping to lose it by my Anniversary in August.

OK, I'll get in, had right rotator cuff and AC joint repair around Thanksgiving and the immobility along with the Holidays has really packed on the pounds. I'll let you know how bad it is 1-1-09.

Okay, I am in. Been off the last 3 weeks after wife gave birth and noticed the other day I was up to 206. I usually hang around 195, but sure would like to get to 185.

I know I'm overweight; no argument there, but I wonder about the BMI and other such charts. They never seem to take into account the different body types we all have. If you're 5'9" and a man, this is how much you should weigh. No questions asked. I have always been muscular and have always been over the chart weight, even when I had an obvious six pack and could do sixty push ups I weighed in over 180 lbs. At any rate, I'm going to shoot for 185. I feel good at that weight even without the six pack.

I remember a while back some talk of a weigh in method that measured a person's weight while immersed in water. That seems like a dependable method for true measurement of fat. I think I'll stick to the bathroom scale though.

I'll join in but not until January 17. That's when we get back from our Caribbean cruise. The only reason I'm going on the cruise is to catch up on some much needed rest and eat and drink all day long as much as I want of anything I want at no extra charge. I guess I will gain 10 pounds on this trip to add to the 5 I need to lose now so I'll start my New Years resolution when I get back.

Be sure to let us know when you get back. I'm sure we'll still have a long way to go.
