Yes, folks--I can bite the bullet.

I shopped and fretted, compared and contrasted, whined and cajoled but finally got 'er done.

So, I got the 5425 MFWD with Cab, 12/12 Pwr rev, dual rears valves and triple mid with joystick--and just about every available option from the "instructor seat" aux lighting, rear wipers, MP3 stereo, heck, I even got the flashing beacon light on top. My son was with me and loved it, so what the heck.

Also picked-up the following

542 FEL with 85" HD Bucket
HD Box Blade
JD 390 HD Flail Mower
JD 709 Rotary Cutter
Bush Hog PHD
66" Root Grapple
JD 675 HD Tiller

And two free hats!

Got all this for a price that was fair--great deal on the tractor and loader. Most implements were very good deals--he made a few bucks on the tiller, I'll admit, but they have to make some money too.

Al in all, I went with this particular dealer because the salesman was very knowledgeable, and didn't BS me.

Bottom line is I got more for less $ and feel great about the deal.

I take delivery in about 2 weeks. Whew!

Many, many thanks to all that have helped me with this process and for their advice and counsel. This is a truly wonderful forum.

The fun never stops,

Silk Hope Soldier.

Good deal...I can't imagine you'll have any regrets on this one.
I have a 5520 with NO, repeat NO cab and wish I did. I love the tractor and they will likely outlast the both of us. JD has made a boatload of these so lots of accessories around and priced fair.

We could use a photo or two when you get it. What part of the country are you in?

Congratulations!! You sure went all out on that deal! You've got a platform now that you won't ever likely "outgrow" and should well handle everything that you and those 100 acres can throw at it.

Keep us posted when you start shopping for a baler, rake and a MoCo.... :)

Best of luck and safe tractorin'.

700 hours later and mine is going strong. I might add that about 400 of those hours were digging and doing heavy lifting. My 2nd seat is rarely empty. That means an awful lot. My kids will always remember "helping" dad on the tractor. Just as mine was going out of warranty I had a problem with the fuel system. Since it would be out of warranty after the repair, my dealer installed the 5525 fuel system and then turned that fuel pump up a bit. (The 5425 is identical to the 5525 other than it's fuel system)

Although I had plenty of power before, and always just used the "e-PTO" setting, I can tell the difference in higher gears pulling the plow and when going up steep hills while running in high gear on the road. Oh, did you get the HD Worksite bucket (it's black), or the green bucket? If you plan on doing any digging or clearing heavy stuff, the much heavier Worksite bucket is definitely worth it. I got a set of weighted R1 tires as wall as a set of non-weighted R4 wheels and tires with mine. Here is a picture of the really heavy duty bucket from JD that I'm talking about. Congrats and enjoy!

Congratulations!!!

Have the dealer throw a set of pallet forks on the delivery truck & you will be all set...

You might be able to stop by the dealer & pick up some owners manuals to read up before delivery & get questions answered during the delivery.

OK... I've gotta ask...! For those inquiring minds -- that want to know -- and might be considering the bigger pond waters of Ag tractors.. what kind of a deal did you get?

And maybe the rest of us --- REALLY wouldn't want to "tread those Ag pond waters"! ;)

Thanks.

AKfish / all:

Firstly, thanks again to all that helped with their advice!

I picked up the 5425 with Cab and FEL for about 46,000. This included a lot of extras as this was a tractor they had on the lot. They had a 2006 5425 with FEL sans a few items with 400 hours for 48,000.

In any case, the tractor was a good deal, however the fellow did nail me on a few of the implements (box blade at 5% below list) but it was a relatively low ticket item in the mix; with everything, including instructor seat, ash tray--(yes that's an extra!) and MP3 radio, add'l lights, even the flashing beacon light-- the whole shebang ran $59,000.00 USD.

The HD bucket, 709 rotary cutter, box blade and PHD have to be ordered and they anticipate delivery in about three weeks--so about a month before they deliver it. The one item that is not immediately available is the Flail Mower. 60 days out they tell me.

Question: Does the JD Flail style mower really cut that much better than the JD grooming mower?

I'd really like to have a nice "lawn" in front of the house and plan to keep the pasture mowed clean and perhaps at 3" - 4". So then again, which is going to be the better cut? I understand that the Flail can leave scallop marks--true?

What say you all?

For a cutter, I'd spend my money on a 10 or 12 foot brush cutter with a hinge in the center so it conforms to your terrain.

That great! I have been looking for a cab tractor in this size and I don't think you can go wrong. Just curious, what came in second place? Ready for some pictures.
Nice! Enjoy.
