New Pick em up Trucks

/ New Pick em up Trucks #41
The attached picture shows my truck during a deck building project.

I am now considering a 2008 F150 4x4 super cab. It is over $11,000 off original MSRP.
It should also be more heavy duty than my 2001.

I tow my tractor on a tandem axle trailer once in awhile. What I really wanted was more payload as indicated in the attached photo.

The F150 is more agressively sale priced. F250's are less discounted, and very difficult to find at this date.

The Ford propaganda machine was also impressive at the dealership. Ford looks pretty good.

That baby looks like a Low rider. Did the rear up come back up when unloaded... Only kidding. Lucky a State trooper wasn't following you..

What did you pay for your '08 F150 XLT?

The XLT I am looking at has the 5.4 V8, 17" off road tires, 3.73 ltd slip axle, power moon roof, power sliding rear window, trailer tow package, heated mirrors, 35.7 gal fuel tank, flex fuel, power driver seat, sirius radio for $24,800 + $175 'dealer prep', bed liner and brake controller. MSRP was $36,180.

I can make final negotiations tomorrow - if they still have the truck.

Is there any more wiggle room in the price? Dealer prep of any price raises an eyebrow.

If that is the price for a 4x4 I would jump on it? Is it a 08 or a 09? I am guessing you are talking a extended or supercrew since it has the sunroof.

Can you post the dealers name so I can take a look at it on Ford.com or a link to the truck if you have it?

Hi Chris,

It is a new 2008 4x4 XLT super cab (not crew cab).

I have an agreement to sell my 2001 for $8,000 so the differential price should not be too bad. The $5,000 rebate will still get sales taxed though.

I wanted an 8' bed, but 6.5' is all I could get. I have a bed extender as seen in the earlier picture, but I am limited to 16' long items.

Regards,

I am thinking about selling my 2001 F150 4x4 off road for something newer and maybe bigger.

I would like opinions of what is good out there in the market place now.

I like Toyota, Nissan and Ford. Ford's employee pricing is looking pretty good right now.

I took a quote from Ford 150 to Toyota and they could not even come close (within 5K) with a similar equipped Tundra. (First week of December.)

That sounds like a good deal. Ours was $35K sticker and we paid $22K even, out the door. Ours was the "New Englander" edition. Chrome grill, bumpers and covers over 18" alloys. Standard mirrors, 3.55 rear, sliding rear window, tow package, 5.4L, push button 4wd, split bench front seat. We did have a "document fee" included in the $22K. Our local dealer claimed he could only come within $1500 of the deal I got. Funny thing, I didn't tell him he had to match or beat it. I would have paid $500 more to be dealing 7 miles from my house, they just didn't seem as interested. They never actually asked for the sale, or asked what would it take to earn my business.

don't mean to try to change your mind about the deal but if it were me that dealer wouldn't charge me a "dealer prep fee". no siree. i tell him to waive the fee or wave to me as i walk out the door. as desperate as dealers are to move 09's, not to mention 08's, i would balk at some rediculous add on fee. if they want to REALLY sell you the truck, they'll waive the fee, if not then you get to keep your money. so to answer your question, that would be my begining wiggling point of final negotiations. good luck!

I have dealt with some dealers on the dealer prep fee and they will not budge on it. I have had them pay for bedliners or other add ons that were more than the prep fee but they would not actually remove it. I am not sure why but it was a deal breaker if I insisted on it

I am buying the beast tonight.

I got the dealer to come down another $675 & throw in the bedliner as it was already installed.

I'll see if I can take some pictures.

I think you are correct.

I will verify later to make sure.

Just got it home. It is snowy and slippery & rush hour I had 4wd.

It is a very nice truck.

Congrats! We like ours and think you'll be happy with yours. What color did you buy?

I got the silver exterior, and 2-tone silver/dark grey interior.

My 2001 was silver, and it hid the dirt nicely.

I am surprised of no body side moldings for the new trucks. My 2001 had some serious door protection. I am going to buy some touch up paint right away.

Here is a pic of my 2007 F-150 SuperCrew FX4 4x4. It has the 5.4 FFV8, 3.73 LS rear, leather, power sun roof, power rear window, center shift, power seats, sirus, power pedals, heated mirrors, factory bed liner, and steps. I like silver also but don't care much for the black leather and carpet. It shows dirt and especially the girls hair. I wish it had the factory brake controller but it was not a option in 2007, 2008 was the first year in the F-150.

I tow this 7,000# boat about 60 to 70 miles each way to the lake every weekend from late April to early November with no problems plus the occasional trip with the car haul trailer. It has averaged 16.4 mpg with no load and 11 with the boat.

That is good mileage. I noticed mine got 11mpg with the empty horse trailer. Good thing I knew I wasn't buying an econo-car.

Yooper Dave;
Congrats on that truck. Nice one, you'll enjoy it for a long time. Fuel mileage is what it is. It may take a few miles to loosen up and give you some bragging numbers. Towing is something else. It all depends on what you're pulling back there. The worst fuel burning causers are the travel trailers. Too much frontal area. You hope some how some day to see double digit figures then realize it just ain't gonna happen. Empty, at reasonable speeds are better than ever though. That is until you look down and discover you've been doing 80 plus for the last 50 miles. They drive so nice and are so quiet these days you have to concentrate to keep it at speed limit.
Anyway, all the best with it, and may it cause you and your loved ones many happy trips. Merry Christmas and all the best to you and family.

Congrats on your new purchase, I'm looking at 2008 GMC 2500 HD. With GM's Red Tag pricing and rebates, $48,200 MSRP, $34,800 before Virginia sales tax and $299.00 dealer processing fee. Good price or not?? My only drawback is I have 2004 Dodge Quad Cab with hemi (96,000 miles) and was only offered $6,000 for trade. What you guys think??

I think you are getting screwed on your trade. What engine and cab configuration is the GM? Tell us about it.

6.6L V8 Duramax Diesel - 6 Speed Auto Allison, Crew Cab 2500 4wd, 3.73 rear axle. Truck has been setting on lot 292 days according to inventory sheet that dealer printed for me. 17" aluminum wheels. I agree with you on the trade, but really don't what a fair price would be. Dodge is in great shape. No dents, stains, just normal wear and tear. Has spray in bed liner and stainless steel Borla exhaust.

Go to N.A.D.A. Home Page to find out what your truck is worth. That is the problem with the new good deals, the trades are low. They are still trying to get the same margins in the end.

One piece of advise. I had 2 3/4 ton trucks and now buy nothing but 1 tons. If you look hard you can find a 3500 SRW for about $600 more with the same options, at least that is what it was last year. There is a world of difference between a 3/4 and 1 ton SRW and for a little money you will have much more capability with much better resale. Like I said I have had 2 3/4 and 3 1 tons and night and day difference.
