Exactly... Well said.
Seems like a lot of people here have resided themselves to the notion that we have a global economy. Well, we don't have a global economy, not exactly, not yet. We are getting pretty close though. Lord help us when we get there because you cannot have a truly global economy without a global government. If you do not understand this then you better pull yourself away from your NASCAR long enough to figure it out (or deal with the consequences if you don't).
Sorry for the political rant but after this last farce of an election enough is enough. Wake Up!

Hey Chris. You must be talking about Muncie and Anderson, Indiana. It's sad.
GM used to have so many factories in the area and employed so many people.
These towns had a lot of other industry too.
Muncie - Chevy, Delco-Remy, Borg-Warner, Westinghouse, Ball Brothers,
Owens-Illinois, Indiana Steel and Wire.
Anderson - Delco-Remy, Guide-Lamp
New Castle - Chrysler
These are just the ones I could remember from years ago. There were others. Now it's all gone. Literally, gone. The Chevy plant was torn down a couple of years ago. It was a fixture of Muncie for decades. Just rubble now. Owens-Illinois is just an old shell that stands dilapidated and falling down. Borg-Warner will be completely closed in the next year. I don't know what they will do with the plant. It is huge. I guess it will just get dozed or maybe sit idle like the Westinghouse plant. When the Westinghouse plant was built it was voted as one of the 10 best manufacturing plants in the U.S.; it is a mamoth place. It has been sitting empty now for probably at least 15 years.
So Chris, you are in Daleville? Did you grow up there? I don't live in Indiana anymore but I grew up in Daleville until 7th Grade then moved to Yorktown. My dad taught for 27 years at Daleville. If you grew up there you probably had him in class.

Forget when the plant was BUILT. Buick City in Flint was rated one of the top 10 plants GM had when it was CLOSED.

No. If you are talking about New Holland Fords they are made by Fiat I believe.

This was my posting. I want this to replace another tax, not be a new tax. The reason boils down to change the majority of American consumers desires to a constant demand for economical cars. I believe the auto industry (foreign and domestic) builds and sells what the market desires. I don't believe the auto industry builds SUVs, therefore the market wants SUVs. I believe this would have good long term effects (several years), but suck in the short term.

Even when they were still "FORD", there were plants all over the globe. Ford prduced many a tractor in England. Lots of them were sold in the US that came from plants in Mexico.
I for one don't see where being an "import" seals the deal where a tractor is of lesser quality or value. That applies to "the old days" as wel as now.

New Holland Hay Equipment that is a true statement----I don't think you want a fact check on the Tractors such as TN and TL and what ever tractors they are building in China and assembling in other places!!!!

I don't think that the quality thing is what bothers people. I think several of the imports, well, at least one, isusually thought of as having the best quality.
I think people naturally want to support US based companies that support US based workers. And I think that is a good and proper impulse. But I think it is impossible. And in that regard no one is more or less patriotic or supportive of the American worker whether he buys a Kubota or a Deere.

I don't quite get it. I think we have a pretty global economy. Pretty much anything I buy comes from a supply chain that consists of many many countries.
There are trade agreements negotiated between countries. Overall they seem to work just fine. We sell you stuff from Canada, you sell us stuff from the USA. No global government required. What am I missing?
Sure with freer markets there is change and some new industries start and others go away. Change is constant regardless however. Its the nature of the beast. It does cause hardship to some individuals but in the end the economy grows, people prosper. In the early 1900s 50% of employment was connected with farming. 50 years later it was 5%. The economic well being of the overall population was much better off for the change.
Personally, I buy goods and services that I believe provide me the best value for my money - quality, service, features etc. In doing so I reward excellence, make the market more competitive, and send a message to those whose products I don't buy to do better. It encourages continuous improvement - by all vendors - local and global. All of the collectively improve and produce better goods and services to gain my business the next time around. Were I to 'subsidize' my decision, based on something other than purely economic decisions, then I distort the efficiency of the market. Yes I might allow some companies to survive longer because I bought their Made in Canada or Made in USA goods - but at the end - they have to compete with global vendors anyway. I would do them a disservice to buy their goods if those made by others were better.
I don't care really where the company is headquartered or where the investors or CEO lives. Investors have access to pretty much all markets. US and Canadian investors can invest in many overseas companies right on the NYSE through American Depository Reciepts.
The economy of the world is tied with our local economies.... because ... together we make the world economy. What is good for all of us, is also good for us individually.

I respectfully disagree. That is more of a narrow minded back woods attitude than anything else. We do have a global economy, and do not need a glonal government. We all just need to get along.
If I need to remind you, we almost had a global government, but that did not happen. If they were to have succeeded, we would all be speaking german right now.
