New SIG 556 Hog Rifle

Sig,
Not offended at all, but I was wondering, what you would hunt a hog with, if not an auto-loader? Just curious? Are you a bow hunter like me? Blackpowder? I've hunted 'game' with just about everything I own, which entails everything mentioned in this post. However, for our hog hunts, which is basically community property policing (ridding area farmers of the pest), we break out the heavy artillery. AR's with high-cap mags are perfect. The only difference in our hunting and Skypup's, is we'll keep one or two of the sows and bury the rest with a backhoe. Wasteful? If they were rooting bathtub size holes in your pastures/fields, or destroying an entire field of corn/peanuts etc., opinions would differ. Their populations must be controlled or they'll take over. They are as infamous as rabbits when it comes to breeding/reproducing.

Again, not offended, nor attacking you at all. Was just wondering what you used to hunt game, or if you've ever hunted wild hogs, what you use.

Podunk

First off, most of the guys I know local who use semi autos are guys with AK's who hunt deer (legal in N.C to use a semi auto). Take shots out past 300 yards, poke and hope so to speak and basically give hunting a bad name in my opinion.

Just seen too many people who know they have more than one shot with a rifle and take shots that they have no right to take.

For myself, when I kill an animal, I try to do it as quick and humanely (sp?) as possible.

Yes, I hunt with a bow in my back yard.

I've also hunted with a bolt action rifle.

That said, standing 20 yards from a huge grizzly bear, I'd take a bow over a .300 win any day as long as I wouldn't be peeing in my pants while shooting:eek:

Personally, and only my opinion, an assualt rifle is to kill as many people as quickly as possible, that is what they were designed to do. I've got some assault rifles myself and I don't have a problem with anyone owning any assualt rifle.

That said, if you need the meat to survive and live, and have no other means available to eat, you've got to do what you've got to do.

That said, all bets off on spider monkees:D

Just remember,

Because you don't agree with semi auto weapons for hunting, you are a gun owner period. There are alot of people out to take all of your guns not just the evil black ones. We don't need folks segregating gun owners any farther. I offer support to all legal activity concerning firearms whether I participate in that activity or not. I never saw any value in an AR15 up until I bought one. Guess what, they're fun for me now, even though I don't hunt with one. As for 300 yard plus shooting I can smoke game cleanly at double that any day of the week. It's all about practice and how much you do it. I'll run a Gold Tip with a G5 striker out to 50 yards on game as well, again practice.

I would have thought you'd have known what an "assault rifle" is. I don't believe those hogs were killed with any assault rifle. I own many AR style rifles as well as a couple of Sig 556 rifles. They are not "assault rifles". Just to clarify, per our own government, "Semi-automatic rifles, though confusingly classified in the USA as assault weapons by the now defunct 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, are not assault rifles as they are not selective fire."

A true "assault rifle" is a class III weapon. It takes quite a bit longer for the background check and to get the stamp. I do own some firearms that are considered "assault rifles", but my Sig 556 rifles are not one of them. And, I'm not aware of any state where it is legal to use fully automatic firearms for hunting for that matter.

I just thought I'd post this for clarification since many people do not know what actually constitutes an "assault rifle". Here's a link to Wikipedia that describes the difference Assault rifle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

good explanation, i was hoping someone would clarify this.....the mass media has done a great job of mischaracterizing many issues of gun control....

Beautiful weapon! Put a little change in your left pocket and you may fire dead center at 100 yards next time.;)

I've talked to numerous folks that use rifles similar to that for hunting.

Brent, money can't buy common sense:rolleyes:

Kind of like your professional "gun opinion" that a glock is the only sidearm that you can dry fire:D

By the way, a combat rifle is more effective in semi auto than auto.

Yup, and I know that you know more than every gun manufacturer, cartridge manufacturer, gunsmith, and the U.S. government. Common sense is one thing but the ability to read and comprehend the written word is something else. Since you obviously disagree, I suggest you write your congressman and all online encyclopedias and let them know that you are right and they are all wrong. But, if you do, you may get the boot like you have gotten before. ;)

Brent, I did made it through the Army;)

Fact is I don't know more than most people and freely admit it.

Skypup, sincere apologies for getting off your topic.

Nice looking gun by the way, and VERY good shooting.

Yeah I hate the term "assault rifle". When anyone asks I tell them I own no assault rifles but I do have 3 "defense rifles", 2 AR15s and an AK :D
