I guess it's a good thing the hog can't shoot back.

Apolgies, never impressed with a man who uses a semi auto for hunting.

Only my opinion and sincere aplogies if that opinion upsets anyone.

No apologies needed, the hogs aren't in the freezer to impress anybody, plus they were all one shot kills anyhow.

But I do have quite a few semi-automatic duck retrieving shotguns! :D

BTW, there is no corn, no feeding station, no food plot, no game camera - I don't want to attract them, I have to crawl on my belly through the woods to hunt them down.

I hunt less now than I did. However, my objective is and always has been to put an animal down with one head shot. My favorite hunting method is to "walk 'em up" followed by locating a natural blind along a likely game trail. Then, they go into the freezer that same day... even if it takes until the wee hours to complete butchering it out. I've shot hogs and javalena but nothing anywhere near that size..... hogs are very tough and certainly need a well placed heavy duty bullet to get the job done.

I've shot all my hogs through the lungs to minimize tissue destruction and maximize meat harvest.

Hitting them right behind the shoulder in the rib cage and taking out both lungs with a loss of one entry rib and one exit rib leads to instant death through massive hemmorage in the thoracic cavity from the diaphram on up. Insuring virtually zero meat damage.

First hog I shot in my wife's landscaped garden this past August was with my Ruger #1 Single-Shot, second one in her garden was taken out with the trusty Winchester 94.

My birthday was at the end of the month and she surprised me with the SIG 556. Shocking NICE present from a great wife! :D

Here's a photo from August of the 500 pound sow that tore up her garden, I spent two weeks with the tractor-loader-backhoe replacing the destroyed plants, top soil, etc.

So far we have fed about 70 people at two parties, another party coming up next month with 40 more mouths. At the Halloween Pumpking Carving contest party, I deep fried an 18 pound turkey and smoked a 15 pound por shoulder. At the end of the party, the turkey was 1/2 gone and the pork shoulder was no where to be found....the dogs did not appreciate that! :D

Those hogs you whacked look like escaped Chester Whites, or Yorkshires or a mix of one of those and something else. Nice shootin'...they are a nuisance and will destroy your property once their numbers increase.

As for the piece, I really like it. I'm a huge fan of the SG-550 series weapons, from which your weapon is derived. I'd sure like to get one before a donkey/*** gets voted in office next month. :( Hold on to it...probably won't be able to buy them soon.

If you want to reach full potential of your SiG, shoot some 62 grain M855 in it. You'll be amazed. Although, I'm pretty impressed with what it did with those light load 45gr rounds. :)

Oh, wanted to say you made a great choice with the EoTech 512. It uses the "AA" batteries and not the CR batteries. In cold weather, the CR batteries don't last long at all, at least in an EoTech.

In military, we shot roe deer with Vz 58. If you want the animal for meat, there is no reason to do a burst.

And questionable animal killing ethics can come with blackpowder too.

Intresting. I have never heard of using a cannon to hunt deer. I would have thought that the shot would be too slow

Sig,
Not offended at all, but I was wondering, what you would hunt a hog with, if not an auto-loader? Just curious? Are you a bow hunter like me? Blackpowder? I've hunted 'game' with just about everything I own, which entails everything mentioned in this post. However, for our hog hunts, which is basically community property policing (ridding area farmers of the pest), we break out the heavy artillery. AR's with high-cap mags are perfect. The only difference in our hunting and Skypup's, is we'll keep one or two of the sows and bury the rest with a backhoe. Wasteful? If they were rooting bathtub size holes in your pastures/fields, or destroying an entire field of corn/peanuts etc., opinions would differ. Their populations must be controlled or they'll take over. They are as infamous as rabbits when it comes to breeding/reproducing.

Again, not offended, nor attacking you at all. Was just wondering what you used to hunt game, or if you've ever hunted wild hogs, what you use.

If these hogs aren't put up & grain fed. Isn't the meat tough ? I though hogs( like cows) that killed for their meat, were put up & grain fed etc,b-4 they were killed for meat quality. We had cows once when I was a kid. Dad killed one that wasn't put up & corn fed & the meat was so tuff you could hardly eat it

kenmac,
Yes, you are correct. Around here, it's only done to the grown boars. He's castrated, then to rid them of that wild, musky taste, fed grain for a month or longer. Supposedly, it's the gonads that makes him smell, and taste that way.

Since I've never eaten any boar that wasn't prepared in the manner above, I wouldn't know how it would taste...but I've heard stories.

As for the sows, you don't have to do that. Whack'em, clean 'em, in the pit.

The method of cooking really has a lot to do with tenderness. A very slow roast/smoke on the pit makes the meat fall off the bone.
