Used John Deere or New Mahindra

After reading the other article on the crappy mahindra service on the blown engine, I'd say the mahindra warranty is about worthless or at best hit and miss.

I read that thread and I came to a different conclusion, if the problem had been pursued when it occurred instead of waiting a year later till after the warranty had expired, the outcome would have probably been different. I understand the higher retail value of one over the other at trade time, but if he took the $3359.40 that the one costs extra, at the time he buys the Mahindra and invests that then when trade time comes, the difference in retail would be a lot less......of course in these times it might be greater...;)

Yeah, investing money in today's economy is a losing proposition for most of us. I'd try to get the JD seller to come down some more, too.

98% of the time, warranties are never even used. Equipment was designed to break after the warranty.

I agree with Builder, you should be able to get a better price on the 2006 3320.

I just bought a very lightly used 08 3320 e-hydro with 447 BH, 300CX loader, Frontier pallet forks, 647 tiller and rim guard loaded tires for $25,000 out the door. Still has 2 1/2 years left on the warranty also.

I think with the economy the way it is now there are some great deals out there on nearly new machines.

Thanks for all the input. Both the Mahindra and John Deere dealers in the area have been around for many years, so it is a tie there also. I think I will go back to the Mahindra dealer and talk things over. If I am not totally satisfied with the deal I will make an offer on the Deere.

Does anybody remember the word "Long Agribusiness" I almost bought one of those some years back. WOW! Glad I didn't. You know where I'd be today if I had. Thats what scares me about the Odd Lots tractors. I'm sure they make a fine tractor that will work every bit as good as a Deere or better.....but what about down the road and you need parts.

We had the same decision last year and went with the Mahindra, we haven't looked back and are not going to. Our machine has been great, we went from a New Holland to a Mahindra. Our dealer sucked, but that is just the dealer the tractor is great.

I wouldn't worry too much about parts availability on any Mahindra 15 or 16 series tractor. They are Mitsubishi made, and that's a pretty reputable company. Not to mention, These particular Mahindras have been around since the late 90's, under the Cub Cadet name, and the parts are identical. Just look at Partstree.com, and you can get any part on that tractor online. The 2615 is the same as the cub 7260(gear drive) or 7265(hydro).

I never owned a Deere, but I know they're a great tractor, but I do own a Mahindra, and love it. It's really a call only you can make.

Don't get sucked in by the 0% financing. The cost to buy down the rate to 0% is tacked on to the selling price. Ask what the discount is for paying cash is and there is your cost of borrowing. Then weigh that against the calculated cost of your personally arranged financing at whatever percent you can get.
It doesn't matter whether the Mahindra is as good as the Deere, look at the total cost of ownership over the suspected length of time you are likely to keep it. Where I live, Mahindra has virtually 0 brand recognition. That means residual value would suffer on the resale market. Not an issue with JD. Nothing against Mahindra, when I was in India, those and Eichers were all I saw. No JDs

I thought Mahindra subbed their small stuff out to TYM?

They did some stuff early, but that has ended. I don't think Mahindra is getting anymore TYM's and if they are they are in very small quantities. TYM is on their own now. The Mitsubishis have been around even before the Cub models. CIH sold them in the early to mid nineties ahead of Cub.

Oh... and I must say it's a tough call here. Given the 0% and warranty, I would go with the Mahindra. That happens to be the model I hope to get myself in the next year or two.
