Gasoline stations

I took credit cards at my business for over 20 years but stopped taking them before debit cards were popular so I don't know what the fees are on debit cards.

I take Paypal on my sales on ebay and their rules state that you can not offer a cash discount on anything you sell on ebay that can be paid for with Paypal and you can not charge an extra fee for accepting Paypal. Violators who are caught lose their accounts.

I have 2 special credit cards that I use for gas purchases that give me a 5% rebate. With fuel at $4 a gallon, I get the gas 20 cents a gallon cheaper and I pay off the card in full each month so there is no interest or service charges. :)

I also use a 5% discount cc. Use to pay cash. With the high prices every little bit helps

I usually run my vehicles almost empty before filling up. Last weekend I had to fill my Suburban, Impala and two 6 gallon cans all on the same day. 35 gallons in the Suburban, 13 in the Impala and 18 in the cans. About $216.00 later someone accused me of gas hoarding because of the situation down south. I had to defend myself by saying, no, I was just out of gas.

Same thing happens during snow storms. We grocery shop one night a week. If that night happens to be the same night the weatherman forecasts snow, we get accused of food hoarding.:rolleyes:

Hey there MossRoad, don't let it bother you. These days, no matter what you do or what your intentions may be some malcontent is going to criticize you and then feel compelled to verbalize their stupidity. I just view it as their way of showing just how ignorant they are to the World.

We're just the opposite; rarely let a vehicle get much below half full before we fill up again.

And when we lived 20 miles from the nearest town and grocery store, I might go a month between trips to town, although my wife and a neighbor friend of hers would probably go at least once a week. Now we have two supermarkets less than 3 miles from the house, shopping mall less than 5 miles from the house, and one or both of us go nearly every day, if for no other reason than to walk around awhile.:D

My stepson called last night to ask us what price gasoline is around here. My wife told him is was $3.66 a gallon at Walmart. He said in Norman, OK he got gas for $3.16 a gallon. I'm tellin' ya, those Okies have got the gas thing figured out.:D Some of them are in for a real shock when they come down for the Texas-OU game in Dallas in a couple of weeks.

I've heard it is not a good idea to run your tank down to empty because it concentrates impurities. Have no idea if that's true.

Currently our prices are holding at around $3.78 to $3.85. Problem is, we got no gas. We are hearing that Ike did enough damage to refineries to cause decreased production for the south east. No reliable sources have been cited to support this and quite frankly I think it is utter bull hockey. Even after Katrina we did not see significant supply problems. Prices sky-rocketed but there was plenty of it here (another sign that we were ripped off).

All the reliable news reports I've seen have said over and over that Ike did only minor damage to refineries and much less than expected. Hard to know what's true.

What I do know is true is that the biggest part of the problem is that is people behving like sheep....or worse than sheep. Mere rumors about prices going up prompted people to race out and fill all their cars and top off tanks. The local radio and TV reported this, showing lines of cars at gas stations and small stations out of gas. This created a panic that has been going on for well over a week now. I hear people in my office saying how everyday they top off a nearly full tank "just in case". This is creating an abnormal and unneccessary demand that normal supply can't keep up with. I say its abnormal because the are no more cars, no more miles being driven and no bigger gas tanks than two weeks ago. And everyday the local media fuels the panic. I'm beginning to think the sterotypes about ignorant southerners are true. We're behaving like morons and paying the price.

Today, lines are out into the street and parking lots of the stations I passed. My truck is on empty. The weekend is coming. I am not going to sit in a gas line. If there is no gas, I'm parking the dang thing and staying home.
