all this painting stuff...a little ocd? :) :D

Good point, Rob, I'll have to watch that. I am not used to paying $12,000 for something that is supposed to get all scratched up. I am beginning to see why farm equipment that looks like junk works just fine--Rust is part of the deal with farming.

People are catching on. Nothing wrong with keeping a tractor or whatever looking top knotch...but...but for my tractor that would limit one of my main uses for having it. cutting atv trails, shooting lanes, etc in a patch of small elms, briars, and any other crap.

But painting implements that are just going to get used and messed up seems somewhat futile (sp?). Heck the best way to clean up a plow is to drop it in the ground for a few hours....

BTW I only know what OCD is...is because my wife ways I have it. :)

"It's 100% soybean oil based."

Well that's a gimmick I'm not sure I've seen around town. Bean paint. Does it cut with thinner or water?

Or soy milk?

Sorry. I had to.

I found an old Ford publication in the walls of an old house we are restoring. I think it was dated 1935. In it they were bragging about their new soy bean based paint on their cars.

I also found a 1935 Southern Agriculturalist magazine. It is in pretty bad shape, but the ads are a hoot. New cars for $500.00!

Thanks to what I've read here, I just painted some reinforcing washers I made for the toothbar installation on my new 7800. The Dupli-color #1620 could not have been a better match to these eyes!

Who waxes????

Mine was waxed as soon as it came off the trailer :)

But have yet to wash it due to the rain and dust I've been creating.

I plan to wax over winter when I have nothing else to do....during the regular months thusfar there isn't much time for this, tractor is to busy earning it's keep.

For the $$ investment there is nothing wrong with taking care of equipment, including keeping it clean and in good condition. Mine is garage kept so that helps too.

I duuno - I agree with MOPAULY 'bout the keeping tools in good condition (especially when the tool in question is $18K) - but I guess the farm kid in me has a cognitive disconnect somewhere between the Turtle Wax (or McGuire's) can and the hood of a tractor... that's just me :) Besides - it's good material for picking on the father-in-law who waxes his Kubota!

I agree...but the paint really helps when selling....in the meantime I'll take a beater looking tractor that runs well over eye candy that runs so so anyday, but I do try to keep mine looking well, I do wash it.

Maybe next time I'm cutting trails I can put the wax on...then let the brush take it off. Look at the left and right of the trail in the pic. That's what was in the middle...brand new trail. Put it in low range, first gear, about 1500rpm, hands in, head down looking for stumps, foot ready to hit the clutch...pray. :) Wait for daylight.

Now if you waxed it you would slip through that brush faster and have more power left over for the loader! :)

I just had three chain hooks welded on the fel bucket of my BX23 this week and used the Dupli Color #1620 Chevy orange engine paint to cover the bare metal. After priming and putting on 2 coats, I can't see where the old paint ends and the new begins. It's a very good match.

That said, I wouldn't use it on the tractor itself as that paint is not nearly as bright an orange as the bh, fel and mower deck. Has anyone had any luck finding a spray paint to match the tractor orange?

I bought a quart of TSC's Kubota orange to touch up my snowblower this spring. It did not match well from my point of view. Although if you are painting an entire implement rather than touching up a slight difference in color may not matter. Since then I bought a quart of official Kubota paint and have been useing that. The Kubota paint is very pricey.

Here, in Missouri, most of the rural farm and home supply stores sell a brand of heavy duty spray enamal made by Van Sickle Paint Company, headquartered in Lincoln Nebraska. I have touched up several spots on my Kubota B2910 using their "Gloss A.C. Orange, #453 70". I cannot tell any difference between the VS paint @ $3 a spray can vs. the Kubota Orange which costs about $9 a can.

I have used several brands and the Magic brand is an excellent color match for the New Orange Kubota now all I need is some good info for the gray also Valspar is a good color match TSC sells that in my neck of the woods Indiana just some information for whomever wants it Eddie

I have pretty good luck with this stuff. It's 100% soybean oil based. I brushed it on some implements that I fabricated and it held up pretty well through the summer sun.

I just came back from TSC half an hour ago. I was there to buy some "Brush Killer Concentrate (TSC Brand)." Of the 4 to 5 solutions I've used for killing off Buckthorn, this seems to work the best.

Okay, back to the point. While there, I picked up a couple of cans of Valspar brand "Kubota Orange (Newer)" Tractor Implement oil-based spray paint, which you can tell by the cap is less bright than standard "Kubota Orange" and has a little red in it. I haven't sprayed it yet, but comparing it to the cap on my Kubota Brand "Bright Orange II" can and the "allis-chalmers" orange, it is clearly a closer match to the Kubota stuff. Oh, and here's the real kicker. The Kubota stuff cost $10 per can. The Valspar stuff was $3.98. Hope it works as well (and even if it doesn't, the cost savings make it worth using a little extra to get the same affect).

This has been suggested previously ...

Rust-Oleum Gloss protective Enamel. Color: "Charcoal Gray" #7784.

If you find something else that works let me know and I'll update the Paint page on the Wiki.

I second that. I just welded some chain hooks on the FEL and the "new kubota" Valspar is a very nice match.

Anyone out there have a good match for the lighter/brighter orange used on early (1980) Kubotas?
