L3800 Kubota
25 Acre Forest /Brush/ Home Landscaping
Model Year: 2014

It handles a bush hog , box blade and front end loader extremely well. There is ample power and 4-wheel drive is a must. To offset the imbalance of the front end load, I added weight to the box blade. It handles great in tight places; HST is awesome. A wider stance of rear wheels would help in stability on slopes, especially with front end heavy loads. A rear light should be standard, but it is easy to add on. The small toolbox has been replaced with an ammo can.

Pros: Flexibility and reliability
Cons: Imbalance with heavy front end load

Starting Problem
Model Year: 2014

This is a tractor that should have got it right. I have been having a problem with starting and it appears it is not uncommon from searching Google. The problem comes from the starter relay. This would be an extremely simple problem to diagnose if it weren't for the absolutely stupid location of all the relays, which is the very last place you would want to check as it requires pulling off the steering wheel. Good luck with that if you don't have a puller and don't want to damage anything, the starter switch, light and hazard switches, the dash cowl (requiring the linkage to the throttle control to be disconnected so it turns to the stop), the instrument panel then you can pull off the relay (Second from right) and check it. The electrical check is relatively simple and takes about 30 seconds with a multimeter. The problem is likely to be just dirty contacts. My system seems very sensitive as the contacts looked okay but all that was required was to reseat the plug and give the whole area a good clean. I question the mentality of the designers when they locate critical electrical parts in inaccessible places open to dust and NO Maintenance capability. It is frustrating to see a great little tractor let down by a stupid design.

Pros: Compact and versatile
Cons: Inaccessible relay bank, one side entry and exit (potentially dangerous)

Perfect Tractor For My Vineyard
Model Year: 2010

I purchased this tractor to build and take care of a 20 acre vineyard in Oregon and it's been a perfect machine for the job. I've carried 3,000 pounds of water in containers front and rear and drilled 70 fence posts, moved dirt, hauled way too heavy oak tree limbs and abused it in every way to get the jobs done and it has run flawlessly. It is the best piece of equipment I've ever owned. The next one will be a Kubota M8540 narrow cab vineyard tractor, but I'll keep the L3800 for mowing and thrashing.

Pros: Great price, powerful for it's size, dependable
Cons: Wish it had and electric power take-off control

Excellent Tractor
Model Year: 2011

To the person with the bad review based on the tractor being a danger to operate, learn how to properly equip and use a tractor. The manual states that there needs to be a rear ballast for safe loader operation. All tractors need rear ballasts for safe loader operation. My tractor is identical to your tractor. I have rim guard loaded rears and never have had the issues you have. I often have a 7-foot back blade on it as well. I rarely even need 4x4 with this set up. My tractor is exclusively used for digging, pushing dirt, tree removal and snow removal. As far as the front axle leaking, that is an issue that your dealer should take care of. It’s not normal on a tractor that new. Mine does not leak. It has low hours but it is still nearly 5 years old. Find a different dealer or call corporate to get it resolved.

Pros: Powerful, fuel efficient, reliable
Cons: Steering brakes are unusable because the hydrostat pedal is on the same side

Right Choice For My Projects
Model Year: 2014

While waiting for delivery, I procrastinated about whether I needed a bigger tractor. I needn't have worried, as I am more than happy with all around performance. I have been using to dig out really, REALLY, big Gum Tree Stumps and have filled in an old dam. HST is great for FEL work and the backhoe is a weapon. Unfortunately, my golf game is suffering as I'd rather be on the 'Bota'

Pros: All around ability, great hydraulics and can't break it
Cons: My golf game. Mind you tilt steering wheel would be good?

No Regrets
Model Year: 2006

Not for one moment have I regretted buying this machine with front loader with bucket, forks and pallet forks. It is used for muck spreading, flailing, topping, fertilizing, apple picking, toting and splitting logs and all the normal bucket work. I have longer muck forks than the normal Kubota ones from choice. The folding ROPS makes shed work easy and that is the draw back with the machine I have just bought which is the 4240 and which, in the UK, you can only get with a cab. My son-in-law now has the 3830.

Pros: It has a fabulous turning circle and with the wheels set at their widest, an excellent sense of balance on quite tricky hills/slopes. The shuttle is great.
Cons: The shuttle is great

Kubota L3800 8X8 4WD w/5" bucket
Model Year: 2013

I purchased this tractor to keep down the underbrush and to clean up the property. It has exceeded my expectations. First I purchased a quick hitch system. Something well worth the money. Then I have purchased more implements for it now. I now have a 5' disk, 5' bush hog, 6' tiller, 500# broadcaster, two row JD planter and a post hole digger. It has done everything and more that I have tried to do with it. I have 10 acres and have some wet areas. Thankful I purchased the 4WD model.

Pros: Strong engine, pulls great, PTO exceeds factory levels of HP, 4WD is fantastic
Cons: None does it all for what it is.

L3800 HST at 220 Hrs. Model Yr. 2013
Model Year: 2013

Nice tractor and I'm pleased with the purchase. Sometimes I wish I went bigger so I could comfortably pull 6 foot attachments rather than 5 foot attachments. It's four-wheel-drive, of course. Easy to drive. Both my wife and daughter who can barely push a lawnmower can Bush hog my yard with no problems. Have had no issues with the tractor so far. I have a woods Bush hog that I told behind it. I have the L front and loader that comes with it as an option.

Pros: Name-brand. Easy to get parts. Reliable.
Cons: I wish the Kubota online website was more robust with information.

L3800 Kubota
Kubota L3800DT: A Good Little, Multi-Purpose Utility Tractor
Model Year: 2011

Bought this because I needed a Front End Loader Tractor that had the ability to handle any small to moderate task. With the L-544 Front Loader added to this, I can clean out my barns and easily transport the 4x5 1/2 round bales to where I need them. Don't get me wrong, this is not going to double stack bales in the barn or lift great big loads, but it will handle a 5-ft. Howse bushhog and a 3-point PTO driven posthole auger. It is a strain on it to pull a 2-bottom 14 inch Dearborn plow, but I also plow as deep as the 3-point will drop and allow.

Pros: Versatile. Smaller size makes for easier maneuverability, especially in and around the barn. Seems to be easy on fuel (diesel) so far, controls are very handily located.
Cons: Would like to see a bit more engine power so unit could have a heavier stance. Power to weight ratio as is, makes it easy to get into trouble if not really paying attention.

Kubota L3800 HST 4WD
Model Year: 2013

I've used my tractor to plow, disc, mow, blade snow and maintain a gravel drive. I plant a couple of acres of food plots. My ancient 16" single bottom plow works the tractor pretty hard in areas that hadn't been plowed (tree roots), after that it does fairly well. I think it would do even better if I could figure out how to get a plow set up just right. It pulls an old 6' disc harrow with ease (20 16" solid discs). This is one area where the tractor is a bit too small physically. I plowed up some fall plots, and disced the next day. The tractor has a bit of trouble stepping over fresh 16" furrows with the disc all the way down, had to make 2 passes in a couple of spots with the disc up a bit. It has enough power; once the furrows are knocked down it pulls the disc easily in mid range. In winter it is used for snow removal on 750' of driveway. I have a 6' back blade. The tractor doesn't get stuck even grading deep snow or gravel up a steep hill. It has R4 industrial tires. They are air filled. It handles a 5' brush hog easily. It has an LA524 loader, works great. I mostly use it to "bulldoze" cut tree limbs and brush into piles. The most I've lifted with it is about 500 lbs. It handled it easily. I was impressed at how easily it started in bitter cold weather.

Pros: Good quality, good performance.
Cons: This is a very basic tractor, no whistles or bells, but I kind of like it that way.

L3800 Kubota
L3800 4x4 Gear Drive List of Faults
Model Year: 2013

1) The three point hitch, when attempting to raise slowly, jerks the crap out of itself. It is jerky/bouncy and feels like garbage. With 7' sickle mower sticking out 7+feet out on the side it is going to break itself by jerking or I have to raise it full blast all at once. 2) Transmission has more slack than my 52 8N Ford. The higher the gear, the more noticeable the noise and slack. Drive on almost level ground in 4th/high range and go slightly uphill, to level, to down hill and you'll hear the gears go from tight on back of gear, to loose, to tight on front of gear. It's like it's worn out the day it was produced. I have rebuilt 2 gear transmissions in older tractors and I know what it sounds like to have too much backlash in your gears. This transmission is a sloppily-made, non-precise, embarrassing gear box. When I drive it down the road to the neighbors they can "hear Kevin coming down the road", and they are not talking about my engine. They can hear those gears just a growling and whining. 3) No hand rest on right side. Doesn't really bother me. 4) Very light/small final drives/light rear. It is very hard to keep the rear of this tractor on the ground with FEL. My neighbors Branson 3510 weighs 1000 pounds more according to Tractor Data.com, and can use FEL all day with nothing on back. And my back tires are both loaded full of washer-fluid. 5) Good motor it seems, good front axle, but without being able to expand wheels out far, the L-series (an economy tractor) is made to roll over. Must use the ROPS. I have been on 2 wheels more times than I can count. Removing FEL helps a lot. 6) Will climb up and down anything---period. 7) Gas cap in stupid location, inevitable that messes on the hood of your 20K machine will be common. 9) Power steering is sluggish and when it tight areas going too slow or stopped it sometimes doesn't have the power to steer. All fluids are proper in this unit, just a weaker steering system. 10) Price point is the strongest point of this tractor aside from that motor. Good motor, lots of power and quick starting. 11) Taking into account the jerky 3-point hitch, which dealer and Kubota rep told me is "normal and won't ever hurt anything", the crappy gear box (1/2 as good as a 60 year old Ford), the power steering weakness, and light butt-end, I will not recommend this tractor to someone who needs to do a lot of work. It'll be okay for a hobby farm of 5 acres but get up to 25+ and you'll be regretting and wishing for a NH, Mahindra, JD, or Branson. 12) Fuel consumption too. That thing can blow through 1.4-1.8 gallons per hour bush hogging. 13) Transmission gets hot to the touch when brush hogging (I have a 15 hour brush hog that I do every spring here with 5' Land Pride. You can't touch the trans, it's too hot. It's all hill hear, must be in 4x4 and going in 4th/low range. I bent my rocker arm on my Superior 394 mower a little last year and then now I use it on my Kubota and that jerking 3 point hitch bent it more and more, so I had to get another rocker. That 7' bar looks like it's going to snap when trying to raise this things slowly. I threatened Kubota with lawsuit and they told me to go fly a kite. If enough people join up, I'll go for class action suit. All they have to do is remove top trans cover and adjust some valves. But they will NOT do it. My dealer won't either.

Pros: Power, pretty, climbs.
Cons: Trans. is junky, hitch is junky, steering is weak.

The turnbuckle stabilizer bars stink. They require a wrench to adjust and are time consuming to connect. They must be adjusted outward to disconnect an implement. Then adjusted inward to properly support the implement. Sliding stabilizer bars are available at optional and cost $. The high gear is noisy. It does not come with a right hand grab handle. Optional $. When using the loader to pull the tractor out of a mud hole it flexes much and seems too light.

Pros: Easy to drive, maneuver in tight places. Plenty of power.
Cons: Way too noisy in high gear.

L3800 Kubota
My Third Kubota
Model Year: 2012

The basic L3800 is a very good platform. The serviceability is easy for routine maintenance. The conventional raised hood allows easy access to oil levels, fluid checks and air filter. Front loader controls are easy to reach, but a bucket level indicator should be a standard item as the long nose of the tractor does not allow for easy bucket level assessment. The engine always starts easily, especially in winter if the block heater is used. Steering is light. Gear range selection in the hydro-static transmission(low, med, high) is very notchy, sometimes frustratingly so. However the 3 settings are great as opposed to the JD I looked at with only 2 transmission ranges. Changing from 4WD to 2WD often requires lifting the front end off the ground with the loader and switching the lever. Otherwise it will not go into 2WD. I would recommend that Kubota go to a larger hydraulic pump on this unit, especially with the backhoe attachment. The engine is very quiet which is nice. The hydro-stat is not. The transmission is very "whiny". Be sure and wear proper hearing protection when operating. Speaking of attachments, the backhoe is "average". The controls are rather sloppy and not near as precise as they should be. It is assembled/built in the USA. That being said, after 30 minutes of use I developed a hydraulic hose leak. After 1 hour of use, the bolts that hold the hand levers on the hydraulic splitters fell out, rendering the hoe useless. Not good assembly. I call it the "Monday/Friday" hoe. The tractor itself is well made and sturdy and gets high marks. Fuel efficiency is excellent. Remarkable in fact.

Pros: Fuel Efficient, Sturdy, Dependable.
Cons: Hydraulic pump too small, noisy hydro-stat transmission.

L3800 Kubota
Almost Perfect for It's Size
Model Year: 2011

My Kubota L3800 is almost perfect for intended use, mostly road grading, plowing and planting food plots, and slipping between the rows in planted pine plantation mowing trails to deer stand. Would give firewall-5s except the shuttle-shift doesn't shift without a complete stop and full depression of clutch. For it's size and weight it pulls amazingly well. I have a 7ft Land Pride disc that is really a little large for this HP but still not heavy enough to break-up heavy peanut grass in hard, dry ground. Otherwise I'm very pleased with the fit, finish, and value of this unit. Several things needing improvement: brake-on indicator, bigger tool box, larger cup holder, (my coffee mug holds 4 cups and doesn't fit the standard holder. Plan to upgrade to more HP soon, looking at L4600 now.

Pros: Value/price reliability, great fuel efficiency about 1 gallon/hr lifting weight.
Cons: Shuttleshift, small toolbox, no brake-on indicator.

I grind stumps. I use it to clean up stump chips. I treads lightly in lawns. I rent a power rake sometimes, it's a beast on a power rake. I also use a flail mower and now many lots for builders until they build. It's nice tractor. I really like it. It's okay when used to load logs from trees I cut down. I put tire chains on the from and a counter weight on the rear and the Kubota digs in and gets to work. It's got nothing on a skid steer but L3800 is light weight compared to a stout skid steer.

Pros: Light weight.
Cons: Uncomfortable to operate for hours on end, bouncy seat wears on my back.

L3800 Kubota
Very Pleased with Purchase
Model Year: 2013

I always thought I wanted green but I never wanted to pay the price for one. When my wife and I started talking about finding the best tractor for the money, I stopped in at a former IH dealer and we began talking. I mentioned green and he said that for his money he would go orange so I started researching them. I was sold and have not regretted it. I have rented other tractors in the past to mow my flat. I have 13 acres of low land that needs mowed. I have never been satisfied with the quality of the tractors. From the first time I used our new L3800 I was very pleased with the ease of handling and the power from such a small tractor.

Pros: Size, power, easy hook up of implements, fuel economy. Very well built.
Cons: I do wish that the brake pedals were on the left side since the hydro-stat pedals are on the right. It is next to impossible to use one brake turning unless you have the cruise control feature, which I do. With that you can do one brake turning.

Fun and easy to handle. Front end loader is a must. Kubota financing at zero interest for five years was a plus. Loan includes insurance that covers everything with a minimum deductible.

Pros: Easy to drive and handle.
Cons: Needs a 12 volt external female plug and better tool box.
