Ford 4000
Model Year: 1971
I bought this tractor in April of 09 and have not regretted a single day. I have a total of 320acres that I manage for wildlife and I have had larger tractors and smaller tractors, I have to say for what I do this is the perfect tractor for what I do. Large enough to get work done efficiently yet small enough to get in and out of small food plots and its no problem to haul this tractor and a load of equipment with my 3/4 ton truck although it would be all a 1/2 ton could handle. I bought this tractor from a lot where all they do is take older tractors go through them fix any major mechanical problem maybe spray a coat of paint on them and sell them. I have had some work done on the draft control and that cost approx. $300 but I knew there were some issues with it when I bought it and I used it for the whole summer last year just like it was and had the work done this previous winter. As far as HP make sure you pay attention to the engine before you buy there were a couple of different models and the engine is the key difference one has a 4cyl. diesel and the other is a 3cyl. diesel and it is rated at approx. 58HP while the 4cyl. is like a 42hp. I am not sure why they did this but I think the 4cyl. was built in England and 3cyl. was built in the states. I have the 3cyl. diesel. What I currently pull with this tractor: 6ft bush hog, 7ft 3point disc, 2Row 309 Corn Planter, 2 Row Cultivator, 8ft pull type Bush-n-Bog Disc(This is a full load for this tractor but an experienced operator can make it work), 4Row No-Till Drill, 2 Pan Bottom Plow, 2 Pan Disc Breaker, I do also some other small thing i.e. box blade etc..
Pros: Best Bang for the Buck and Parts are still easily found and reasonably priced
Cons: None other than the fact it is an older tractor **** Requires a bit more maint.
