Looking buying a Gravely zr48 or 54 XL. I have looked at several residential zr'a and the gravely appears to be the best built in the $4,000 price range. Can someone help me, is this correct or am I missing something?

I like the HD60 I bought. It seemed to me to be the best buy for the money. It has good components, a decent warranty, and the deck is heavy. What it does not have that some of the higher priced machines do have is grease zerks on the wheels and spindles. That may make a difference over the years, but I beat the heJJ out of my last MTD riding mower for seven mowing seasons. I knocked the wheels off it several times. I replaced the front swivel bracket (axle) twice. I burned up belts by trying to mow what amounted to hay with it. The spindles were sealed and had no way to lube them, and I never had to replace them. In fact, I bet if I could get that piece of junk started it would still mow just fine.

Just bought the Gravely zt54 XL, any comments on this mower. It is for residential use, about 1.5 acres.

The 54xl's are a good machine. Working at a dealership we see very few issues with them, only 2 isolated issues have come in the shop recently (one pully issue on a machine with 180hrs and one had check valve break in the hydro (not gravelys fault)) but they are all covered by warranty and were corrected properly. I don't know if you have a brand new 2011 model or not, my only gripe is the handle bars are a little less then I expected. As you will find Gravely is a great company and truley stands behind what they sell. Good luck!!
