In the OP picture, I'd say many people are reacting to the perceived cheapness and visual distraction of the white ties, and how their installation was left.

Rgds, D.

Exactly. It's not perceived cheapness... It is cheap!

The fact that an OEM (Kubota) does this is pathetic. At least cut the darn things off properly and make them white.

As 4Shorts said... The Zero turn mowers have tons of these zip ties that are cut long. I saw a ZD326 that had at least 6 just above rear tire area. They look trashy. No pride in workmanship. Kubota has alway made a quality product... Maybe the US assembled stuff is where the problem lies with the zip ties. Bubba quality control just don't care.

One of the reasons zip ties were developed was to reduce the skill level needed to loom wiring. Proper MIL spec wire lacing is a bit of an art form - somebody had to be trained to do that, had to care about their work, and know that they were being closely watched - it was a different world.

Production zip tie guns are set to pull to a given torque, and cut in a specific manner. Beyond roughly placing the zip tie, basically no skill is required to operate the zip tie gun (enabling the use of that all important cheap labour).Chances are the body on the production line at Kubota is doing exactly what they are being told to do - volume/hour is mostly all that matters.

What would be worth doing is a clearly shot video of these lame zip ties on these new Kub's, and posting it to Youtube with an appropriate title - "Lame zip ties on a $15K Kubota tractor ?". TBN'ers alone could get the View Count going.... after enough hits, perhaps Kubota Marketing might pay attention.

good machinery should work well and perform above expectations.
great machinery looks good doing it...

we could put much larger numbers on those "lame zip ties" post.
When the value hits $50k does it become even lamer?
How about at $300K, or even $2M, like a sixteen cylinder diesel generator.

I looked at the Ty-Rap website. It reminded me that most of the tie wraps we see are like the candy at the
check out counter, junk. We just need to search for the good stuff, and use the gazillion assortment tube we all have to
wrap our pc cables with.

I wonder if one could use a metal zip tie as a tiller shear pin...
now there's a test of one's metal....;)

They make stainless steel zip ties for high temp applications. I use them to secure asbestos type wrap to exhausts.
They work great but tear up your fingers.

Asbestos? Yikes! Thought they made exhaust wrap out of safe stuff now.

Tractor is in the dark, no sunlight (UV rays). Tractor is out of the garage and hood is closed and no UV rays in engine area. Pull tractor in the garage and raise hood and still no UV rays. Pull tractor out of the garage, rais ehood and instantly all white zip ties are destroyed and start crumbling. OK, so they don't crumble instantly from that one shot of UV rays that keeps coming up, how long before the aforementioned covered hood down tractor loses all white ties?
Now speaking of white ties, I have some strings of solar lights on my porch rails and they are held on with a few white ties in the direct sun to charge solar panel and seem to be showing no isgns of deterioration after many months. What's going on with that? Could they be UV resistant white ties? I also don't have the tool to cut the ends off and they are just hanging and so far no one has complained about my quality standards but maybe they are telling everyone else and not me.
Some of you guys crack me up. I to can't let this go but I give it a few pages before saying the same thing again and again and again, that covers me for at least 3 more pages unless some one givs me some answers or questions to my post.:cool2: :cool2: :cool2:
I can honestly promise you that whether your 'white ties' are UV resistant or not.............very few on this thread are gonna buy your porch............or lights............because you admitted to not cutting them off. And that poses a danger to every living being ;)

I mean.......you could potentially cause a severed foot on a bird...........or even a chipmunk :)

There was a guy here on TBN, that posted a picture of wire ties on his ROPS to keep the birds from pooping(can I type that?) on his seat..............I reported him to the ABCDEFG..................and I hope that nail him

But on a lighter note............wait til spring.............dunno what it is about the winter months. But come spring, your ties will probably be broken. (I personally think it's a combination of the cold air temps.......and the heating of the sun).

I will report back in the spring how the ties (Harbor Freight cheapo's) are working or dead since this thread will still be active then.
