Zerks that refuse grease!

I use several methods of getting a zerk to take. The main thing to to grease regulary or if your gonna put an implement up for a few weeks give it a fresh greasing. In the winter our scraper doesnt get alot of use. After about a month it gets hard if it was run and put up. On my excavator sideshift I have to offset the boo mand put a little dwn pressure on it. One trick to make a stubborn fitting take grease is to put a thick paper towel like a blue one on the nipple of the fitting then push the gun nozzle onto it. It really seals it off. I have a grease gun at work that I Have a small amount of grease in the bottom and I fill it the rest of the way up with hydraulic oil or motor oil and fuel mix. the articulation joint on the compactor at work is bad to jam up. I hook up the grease gun and use the towel trick on the nozzle and then holding the gun upside down I pump it. I use a long handle gun because it will build up a large amount of pressure and then you have to bear down on it. On the compactors joint you will hear a pop and then see the oil trickle out. Then its goog to go. I have also filled the gun up with Blaster for faster results.

Here's what it took to fix the self balancing shaft on my BX2660 MMM. In about 2-3 hrs I pounded the pivot pin out...took the entire joint apart. The zerk was fine...the pin was too tight. The bushing inner lining looked rough but had a slot where the grease enters. I sanded the pivot pin and its mating bushing...cleaned these brand new parts all up and reassembled. Now it will take some grease with a lot of force..but reluctantly. As far as I'm concerned, this was a factory defect.
