ZD326 gas gauge stopped working

I have had a lot of fuel tanks on various engines rust out and wind up stopping up filters and carburetors. Starting not too many years ago, many manufacturers started making gas tanks out of plastic and the rust problem was solved in the tanks. But most of the gas gauges in fuel tanks I have had have been made of aluminum or stainless or plastic. This gauge being made out of cheap metal never should have been put in a fuel tank to rust out the way it did in just a few years. I'm hoping that the replacement one is a little more rust resistant. I keep my diesel in sealed plastic containers inside a storage building to keep moisture from forming inside them so if my tanks get water in them it has to be coming from the pump at the station.
