Good points, but just to clarify:

On the Deere ZTRs, the "E" and "M" series have manual foot lift levers where you can control the deck height better. The "R" series are the only ones that have the electronic lift that is either all the way up or down to the set cutting height.

In my opinion, nothing on the market gives as good a cut as the Deere Z900 decks. That being said they are not the smoothest ride so you need to balance those 2 features.
I think that is a top of the line feature, or maybe the commercial size ZTR's.

My Z545R with a 60" deck has the foot lift pedal.

I guess I've never seen a 994 or a 997 that wasn't an R. I'll have to disagree on the quality of cut. My Kubota 1211 cuts just as good as my 9 series or 7 series maybe better.
