Z-Force 50 Gas Tank Keeps Falling Off

Hi all. First post.

I bought a used 2006 Z-force 50 last fall. It's kind of in rough shape body-wise, but the engine is strong and the price was right.

As I was mowing yesterday, going over some bumpy terrain, the gas tank just popped off! My question is: how is the tank held on? Is it basically just gravity that is supposed to keep the tank on the little brass pegs? or are the pegs supposed to be friction fit into the tank? As it is right now, the tank just slides off the pegs.

Also, any suggestions on how to fix? I was thinking some JB Weld or gasket sealer over the pegs and then force the tank over them. It's a better looking alternative to a bungee cord.

They must have made some changes over the years. On my Z-Force, the tank is attached to brackets on the frame.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Technically mine is attached to brackets, too. But the way it attaches to the brackets is with a bolt that goes up into a brass peg that sits in a recessed hole in the bottom of the tank. There are 4 of these attachments.

My guess is that these pegs are supposed to be "stuck" in these holes, and mine aren't anymore.

The little brass pegs are the threaded inserts that were molded into the tank. JB Weld doesn't stick real well to some plastics, I would use some body putty to glue them back in. I use Bondo that has fiberglass in it.

This is a cyanoacrylate glue that comes with a tube of plastic primer that's supposed to work on polypropylene, which I believe these tanks are made of.
