guess it depends on how much you use it. Dump truck will hold more, and be easier to move around, but it's another machine to maintain and insure. I'm just a homeowner, so the trailer made sense for me.

I have 8 diesel engines to maintain and several pieces of complex equipment aka HAY BALERS. lol
A dump trailer is so dumbed down compared to a dump truck, but theres no beating the “jump in and go” convenience of a dump truck. However, a dump trucks licensing, insurance and maintenance is a spectacular expense compared to a dump trailer. Probably 10-25 times the cost over 10 years. Just one big dump truck repair and, well you know how it goes.

Ours is a 92 super duty with a 5T dump on it. The 460 in it is strong with only 80k. Frame, body are rusting out and mice have gotten into the electrical system. She still starts up and hydraulics work, dashboard doesn't though.
30 years of Michigan weather plays a toll.
I'd like to go maybe a tad bigger but hard to find for a decent price around here.

The Dutch way would be: Strip the front end, bend the chassis rails into a V, bolt a coupler to it, and there you go....

Funny you mention this but another nice thing about a dump trailer is you can easily hook it up to a tractor and pull it any where the tractor can go. You’d have to have a more off road intended tire to do any good off road. My dump trailer has 17.5 tires and they’re a great road tire but they’ll get you stuck in a hurry. It’s worse off road than my dump truck is and that’s pretty bad lol.

4WD Tractor might be better with ag tires pulling it through mud, but really deep mud would be difficult.
